Hi Cryptopie, I have two dogs and I learned a couple new things from your post. Here in North America, I think most dogs are indoor pers that are discouraged to bite, making them less of a guard dog.
I didn't know about diatomaceous earth for flees, that is interesting. I makes me wonder if there is any danger if dogs breath it into their lungs.

One is food grade, the other one is a non-food grade which is used for cleaning.
These are like microscopic shards of glass so I think it is bad the be breathed with.
I also bought half a pound and it is expensive. It happened that I would be taking an important medicine for me so I just postponed its use.
