Sjarvie5 Life Update

in #update2 days ago (edited)

Hello Hive friends,

It has been awhile. On November 1, 2024 I posted my last travel post and I kept my goal of posting in Art Talk once a month through all of 2024, so there are art posts for both November and December.

Now it is January and a holiday in the United States- Martin Luther King Day- so I have some time to connect again. Here are some highlights. I will individual posts too.

Picture taken December 17, 2024 by co-worker when I was taking our staff pictures.

November

Glass blowing.

From Oct.25- Nov. 29th I took a glass blowing class at the community center. As many of you know I am fascinated with glass, especially Chihuly. I decided to take a class and learn how to do it. I will say that it is HOT 2000+ degrees so I am extra happy I waited till the weather cooled down and I like stained glass more.

Desert Botanical Garden

When the weather cools down I feel like being outside again and one of my favorite places is the Desert Botanical Garden. The new artist is Hybycozo!

Fall Garden

The garden has really struggle this year, all except my bok choy! The garlic seems to be holding on too and I hope to get a good enough garlic harvest to make a garlic braid.

Freeze Dryer

In November I made a really big investment and bought a freeze dryer. It has been so great and has become integral to my new business

Detox Retreat

In November I decided to do the 10 Day Detox Diet by Mark Hyman to see if I could help my body reset and feel better. It was a nice wholistic program and I found a lot of great recipes including for a dairy and gluten free, low sugar chocolate truffle recipe. This truffle is so good that I shared it was my friends and made if for treats at Christmas and started a business...that comes in January.

December

Hospital

In December I spent 5 days in the hospital with a small bowel obstruction. This is me after getting the NG tube out. I happened to get a very large corner room. I was at the Mayo Clinic and was treated wonderfully!

Oregon for Christmas

The day I left to fly to Oregon I got the stomach flu. I made it to Oregon and spent a few days sick and then we went to the Oregon coast and Redwood forest. It was wonderful and so was the snow on the way to Klammath falls.

First half of January

Thai Chi

While living in Taiwan 25 years ago I saw people doing Thai Chi in the park. I wondered about it. Now I am taking a Thai Chi class at the Desert Botanical Garden. It is just what my heart and body craved and need right now in my life. I am enjoying it so much!

Truffles and Tins

On January 5, 2025, my 52nd birthday, I launched a new business. With the awesome chocolate truffle recipe I discovered during the detox in November, my new freeze dryer and a desire to help the planet and give people delicious treats I started this business. I can now call myself a chocolatier....how fun is that? If you would like to check it out the website is trufflesandtins.com
It has taken a lot of time, energy and resources and I am loving it. I get to be so creative- with the flavors, taking pictures of the truffles and the organizing and running a business. A big thanks for @jarvie for telling me about Notion.

There you have a 2.5 month update. I am happy and healthy and so busy with my career and making lots of truffles!!!

Wow lots going on. I've never done tai chi but it definitely sounds like a great thing to do "at our age" - I find a lot of yoga too intense now! Your business idea is great .. you must enjoy it too much is the main thing. And glass blowing - fun!!!!

I have been doing yoga for many years and have really found myself enjoying the Yin yoga, slow and stretching and with Thai Chi I get the nice gentle movement, the great music and the connection with the earth and energy. It's wonderful. Yes, glass blowing was cool.

I used to really like yin. I even did a training in it after I did my yoga teaching training. But after COVID most of our studios shut down and all the good yin teachers disappeared. I don't enjoy it as much when I do it on my own these days. I miss the meditative instruction.

Wow, Congratulations on your new business! Your truffles look delicious. That's no small feat getting your venture off the ground, no wonder you've been super busy. So you are loving your freeze dryer? I have freeze dryer envy LOL. Being a want and not a true need, I have held off purchasing one.....but I still want one :D

Thank you! The truffles are so creamy and delicious. The freeze drier is so great! I love it. I am going to do a post on it and what I have freeze dried. I had freeze drier envy for awhile and then one day I just decided I wanted to get it! It has been amazing, because I freeze dry the fruit for the topping of the truffles, so the flavor comes directly from the fruit.

I've got to try that recipe now lol...it won't leave my mind. I dehydrate my excess eggs now, but the freeze dried eggs are superior to dehydrated, I feel. One of my favorite freeze dried things to eat are strawberries, but those raspberries 😋...mmmnn

Agreed the freeze dried strawberries are amazing. All the fruit really. So good.

What an eventful 2.5 month!! Congrats on running new business, miss chocolatier! Your truffles looks so tempting 😋

I love nature pictures sooo much! And ... Thai Chi - it's a martial art? 🤔

So good to hear from you @zirochka. I love that I can call myself a chocolatier. It is so great. The truffles are so silky and yummy! Thai Chi is a exercise where people are doing slow gentle movements. It is so great in that it talks a lot about nature- the earth and sky and energy. The music is wonderful too.

I'm sorry to hear about your hospital visit Sara, trust you're fully recovered now. Apart from that, you've been a busy bee!!

The glass blowing class must have been fun, and did you make those flowers during the classes? It must have been so rewarding to do that within a few days.

Good luck with your new venture! The truffle and the so many different flavours looks delicious!

Hi Pauline. Thank you. I am feeling good now. It is a little scary cause I don't know when it will happen again. I did make the flowers and a few more things, I will put more pictures in that post. Thanks for the well wishes with the truffles. It is fun! I am still waiting on word about when the ceremony is at Cambridge. My friend and I are planning on trip, we are thinking in April. I will bring you some truffles!

I'm seeing your post after a long time, I hope you're having a good day.Best wishes.

I am having a very good day. Thanks @jannatzubair29 hope you are too.

Thanks @armandosodano good to see your beautiful paintings!

I haven't read your post in a long time. Thanks for coming back. When artists make something with glass that is over 2000 degrees, if they throw it with their hands, that part will immediately burn to ashes. But they are not afraid. But why? I wish you good health and a beautiful life.

It is super hot and we definitely do not touch it with our hands. I felt very safe during the class and I was a complete beginner. Thanks for the well wishes. :)

Welcome back. After a long time your post is here and it's nice to see that you are working hard and the natural things like flowers and plants that are there every time we go to a place like this makes us feel a lot more relaxed.

Thank you @djbravo I will have more pictures from the Desert Botanical Garden soon. Yes, nature helps us feel more relaxed.

Most welcome.

Welcome back..💕

Thanks!
