We have an exciting update about the 3Speak mobile app!
One of the biggest challenges we've faced at 3Speak is the video encoding process. Sometimes, it's not very reliable, and users have to wait a long time for their videos to be processed. A few weeks ago, @disregardfiat came up with a great idea: enabling on-device encoding. This means that instead of relying on external servers, the encoding will be done directly on the user’s device, making the process much smoother and significantly faster.
How to Choose the Video Encoding Quality
On the app settings, you can select from three quality options: 480p, 720p, and 1080p. By default, videos are encoded in 480p, so if you prefer higher-quality videos, make sure to adjust this setting in the app.
Below, you'll find a quick step-by-step guide with screenshots to help you change the video quality in the settings.
Open the app and log in (you can log in with your posting key or with Hive Keychain)
Click on your profile image to access the settings.

- Once you are on this screen, click on the "Settings Icon":

- Click on "Video Encoding Resolutions" and activate the ones that you want to have as a default on every video:

Which Quality Should You Choose?
The best option depends on your preference and your device's processing power. In most cases, 720p offers a good balance between quality and performance, but you can test each setting to see what works best for you. If you have a powerful device, 1080p will provide the highest quality, while 480p is a good choice for faster encoding on lower-end devices.
- And when uploading a video, enable the "Encode video on device" option:

Thanks to the hard work of @sagarkothari88, this feature has now been implemented in the mobile app! You no longer have to wait for encoding—your videos will be ready much quicker. However, the encoding speed will depend on your device's processor. For users with lower-spec devices, we will continue to offer the regular encoding service to ensure a smooth experience for everyone.
We’re also working on bringing this feature to the 3Speak web app (3speak.tv) very soon.
I'd be interested to know how long it might take to encode videos on a phone. Mine is not particularly powerful. I can see that distributing the work will help you a lot. We need prompt posting of videos. I expect it could be fairly quick for short ones at low quality.
It is hard to say because it will depend on the phone's resolution and power. It will also depend on the length and weight of the video. I would suggest 720p because 480p might be too low.

Oh yes, that's an issue that has not been fixed. The app should be a good solution for this.

Hi, I just tried the app now and it’s amazing
I was about to upload a video when I saw this post, it’s more faster and effective but I have some observations.
I couldn’t select thumbnail so I just click on the next icon and it went
After selecting the video and encoding, the video has to upload before it is published which is cool but after clicking on publish, it has been an endless rolling cycle for hours now.
I dont know if the video is uploading or it has uploaded. I can’t find it on my blog nor do I know if will appear later.
From what I see on the screenshot, it might be a network issue, as you have no signal or WiFi.
I think the video was not posted. I cannot see it in your profile.
