So today I went to my favorite Drone shop, Dallas Drones (shameless plug coming because they're genuine people). While talking to the owner about my future in the drone space I mentioned Dronebase, the company that I intend to cut my teeth with in professional drone photography, he hadn't really checked them out but had heard mixed reviews as with a lot of things in the industry right now. Yes I'm a customer and yes his job is to sell me stuff but he's always upfront and genuine about it. We continued to rap about the state of the industry and he gave me some ideas to pursue as well in my quest to build up my little drone fleet. He also offered me a deal on @rishi556 drone of choice the Phantom 4 pro. After seeing this thing up close and personal I see why he wants one, and now I kinda do to. Kyle more or less explained to me that people for better or worse are looking for that professional "look" and the Phantoms and Inspires of the world fir the bill a lot more than a Mavic Pro or Air and especially more than a spark. Now before folks get up in arms he didn't say it can be done with any of those other drones, the Phantom and Inspire is what most people are expecting to see.

So I think I'm quickly going to end up with several drones each with their own purpose (especially since I plan on giving my Spark to my oldest son). SOOO the Phantom pro Obsidian might be in my future before the Mavic Air, I still need to do more research and get in with some more industry folks that might be able to offer some advice and wisdom. @markangeltrueman comes to mind cough cough.

Anywho todays Mavic air fact: The "landing gears" on the Mavic Air have a secondary purpose of having small antennae in them to help receive transmissions from the remote control with less interference from the motors and other onboard systems. NEAT huh!?!?

Today's 107 tip is that there are two types of miles...yes 2. SM and NM. SM is Statute Miles (5280 ft that most know and love). NM is Nautical Miles (6076.1 ft...huh??) So the difference to note in the two is that actual traveled distance aviation wise will be measured in Nautical Miles(NM), and Visibility, Cloud clearances etc are measured in Statute Miles(SM). Seems like little of nothing but you never know if something about this will pop up on the test (unique to each tester).

I hope my musings of my favorite drone store along with my little tidbits on the Mavic Air and the Part 107 test proved useful and added a little something to your day/night. If you agree with me hit that upvote button, resteem and follow me in my quest to get my part 107 certification and a drone to go pro with.

Thank you all for the continued support !!

As always if you've made it this far (in this blog post or in life) you're awesome... stay that way.

I posted a new illustration at my blog relating to drones. I do a lot of artwork related to Science and tech so please check me out... follow or upvote. I am new to Steemit and trying to build an audience who appreciates good art. Keep up the great work! https://steemit.com/drone/@mondoart/eye-in-the-sky-a-mondoart-net-illustration

As with traditional photography, it's not what gear you have, its what you do with it that counts. I reckon I could produce better footage/images with the Spark than a lot of people could with the Phantom Pro (based on the quality of some of the footage I've seen out there being produced with the top of the range hardware). It's one thing buying the best drone you can afford, but another thing totally knowing how to plan your shots, manage the light and then post-process your work. That's the sort of thing that money cannot buy.
If a customer chooses one person over another just due to the price of the drone they use, then that's a customer I don't want to work for.
I'll concede that the camera on the more expensive drones is going to be marginally better but coming from a traditional photography and videography standpoint, when you have a lens with an aperture the size of a gnat's penis, there's no comparison to getting a drone that you can attach a dslr to.

Thanks for the well thought out response @markangeltrueman if it's ok with I'd like to look to you for mentoring from time to time. The Phantom or higher crowd is mainly for Dronebase insurance inspection gigs (mainly just to pay that bad boy off if I finance or fill my calendar if the upfundme is successful). I'm hoping to get some raw footage tommorow morning and edit up a little something to show.

nice post
