I have read so many posts on how you should write on steemit, originality and quality content have been the major characteristics of what an ideal post should have.
A steemian knowing this then sits back and thinks of a topic he can write of, mulls over it in his mind and starts writing. As he is writing, he thinks of the best way possible put his words together so he can captivate his readers and he is so excited- as he is writing still- knowing that the readers of his post would comment and tell him how great and interesting his post is and how they have enjoyed it greatly. He imagines how his readers would relate to the issues he had written about, ask questions and give their opinions and reservations.
He is much excited and can't wait to finish up his piece.
When he is done, he reads it over and over, he make his punctuations, paragraghing, grammar and the use of his words all perfect. His master piece is then ready to be posted, but wait! He needs perfect pictures to portray his ideas so he goes onto photoshop and creates his pictures or in some other cases goes to the internet and finds pictures that he is allowed to use and inserts them at strategic points in his writing. He then puts his topic in a way that would catch readers' eyes inviting them to read the post. His writing is completed and then he posts.
After posting, he waits patiently for upvotes-mind you, as much as he was excited when writing, he was even more excited that he was going to earn decently because people would read his post and like it- and comments. He is ready for the interactions that was coming his way. After thirty-two minutes, he has ten upvotes, four views and three comments saying 'cool', 'nice post' and 'interesting post I enjoyed reading' respectively. He thinks to himself there is still time, he hopes to get at least comments from at least twenty of his 100 followers. He then copies the link to his post on post-promotion rooms on steem-chat and after three hours he gets fifteen more upvotes, six more views and seven more comments three of which he could only react to. At the end of seven days, he gets two resteems, thirty-five steem dollars, sixteen views in total and nine comments in total. He claims his reward and that is it with that post.
I am sure there are some steemians that can relate to this story maybe not much but at least some. The margin between the upvotes and views is rather wide and then one wonders why those who upvoted don't just read the post and then decide to upvote if they like the post. Maybe more steemians are more interested in curation than actually reading posts, maybe they are not really interested in the post and just upvote them anyway.
Whatever it is, I think writers would derive more satisfaction and would be encouraged more to keep writing top quality posts if the number of people that read their posts are as high as the upvotes they get and the comments they get would be very appreciated too.
Questions raised
would posts get as much upvote as they do now if upvoters are not allowed to upvote unless they have read the posts? (I am just thinking out loud, don't mind me)
what about you, would you just want the upvotes or would you appreciate that people read your posts than just upvoting them?
Please feel free to comment, I am looking forward to reading your opinions about this.
Most importantly, thank you for reading
Thanks for the post. I can totally relate LOL. Upvoted. Will follow :)
Thanks for reading. Will follow right back.
Now that's a great idea as a suggestion to inject deeply into the core of steemit developers for the next hard fork.
¿Why not try (like an interesting experiment at least) that nobody can upvote a post unless they have read the article entirely from top to bottom?
Oh yeah! those would be yummy maths to play with. ¿Huh?
¡Upvoted & Resteemed! :)
Wow, I am so glad you could relate to my thought. Thanks for reading.
How can you have more upvotes than views? That's the first thing that came to mind when I started reading. I was like "10 upvotes 4 views, what kind of Math is this?" and then I was like... Oh, I see. So people are not using this as a social network but as a medium to make money that's it.
I really don't have to read a post before I upvote.
And I think we could all decide to be really interested in what other people have written and appreciate their efforts.
I love em comments brother, its always some kind of motivation especially when the payout is low af
Lol, low payouts are really disheartening.
For me, comments matter a lot. Comments make you know how much the readers enjoy your article. Then we ca talk about upvotes
Genuine comments indicate that at least some people have taken time to read one's work. It can be satisfying.
I'm always happy when people leave a comment, but not always that means that they read the text. So most time I try to make shorter posts, that can be read in a minute or two. We're all in an instant hurry in these times...
But up-votes also rock:)
Very true @inber, once my post is over 5 paragraphs, i get bored myself.
Ha-ha:) Imagine that:)
Lol, your own post for that matter.
I tell you bruh, not to talk of other audience......
Lol, we can always improve on that
Very true. We are always rushing these days. Thanks for reading.
EXACTLY inber!!!! I get tired of reading some posts, I just go ahead to upvote
;)
I agree with you, shorter post is what i think will work, no time
Upvoted are good and comments are good. Often the two go hand in hand-the more comments a post has the more votes it has. Obviously though, that's not always the case.
I really enjoy getting a lot of comments and sharing exchanges with a lot of people. To me, that's more rewarding than votes. My content, though, doesn't always garner a lot of comments. I don't produce discussion pieces very often.
I'm happy to see votes, but even happier to get a lot of views and gain followers. The views, resteems, and follower count help me decide if a post was successful. Even those aren't good indicators, though.
Your content only has to mean something to one person for it to have quality and value.
Very true. Getting people react to our posts is very satisfying and in my own opinion, it should be what we work more towards. Thanks for taking time to read and thanks for the comment
Thank you. I enjoyed your post.
Thanks for reading
