Why no earnings on my most popular post???

in #upvotes8 years ago (edited)

I posted an experimental post that has generated lots of comments and upvotes, but has earned very little earnings.

I've been doing a lot of research and I believe it is it basically that the only people upvoting are n00bs, too, and hence due to steemit voting power I'm not gaining much in earning. As much as I think I have it figured, I want to get clarification from someone who can say for sure... I spent quite a bit today researching and even was able to put together an article concerning what I learned about Steem Voting Power, but I'm not 100% sure I've got my head around it. I feel like I'm missing something, but maybe I'm simply over thinking it.

Can someone validate that I am correct in my assumptions?

All have been said. U have to have patience. Sometime ur success is in a post that u didnt spend 5minutes to prepare. Be yourself and enjoy the game

I think the consensus response is that I am correct about the voting power process and that I've been going about this all the wrong way.

The key is to be genuine and treat this platform like any other social media platform and it will lead to profitability.

The reality is that this is no different then, say, Twitter for example. On Twitter if I wanted to have influence, I would/try to both compose posts with interesting content (insight/entertainment/etc) and behave and in way that would attract people to want to follow me and like the content I am posting. The same holds true with SteemIt.

I must admit, when I joined the community it was to satisfy both, equally, satisfy my curiosity with the platform and profit motive. I'm quite ready to actually read the FAQ and dig into the technology / processes and recognizing their may be more to this in regards to augmenting my twitter habits (maybe replace in time... talk about disruptive technology).

The profitability motive if the primary motive it will be telling and is really not what the community is actually about. Rather surprised by that, I had made some assumptions that would be the driving force, but it seems that is secondary (or less).

No trolling either... Refreshing.

Thanks for the respectful redirect.

Depends on the steem power your voters have . If you got upvotes from people with a lot of steem power you will see great results .
But don't be dissapointed. Look steemit as social media platform . Money is bonus here not your mainly goal :)

Well said. You can read more about it in the FAQ in the section about voting and curation.

I'm ashamed to admit this, I have not read through this and I have no rationale reason. I've been googling for days, too... Typical, I never read the instructions - I just start tinkering and see what I can break...

Don't be ashamed. Just go ahead and read the FAQ and you will be surprised at how useful it is.

Thanks for the respectful redirect.

I am surprised that profit isn't the main drive on this platform.

Pleasantly surprised and more impressed everyday. As I mentioned on another reply, the lack of trolls is refreshing and I will definitely be augmenting my Twitter habits with SteemIt (someday maybe even replace Twitter... talk about disruptive technology).

Almost certainly that's what you're dealing with. The people upvoting you are minnows in the truest sense, and they have very little voting power. To make any serious money here you have to hit whales. Or be very patient while you become one yourself.

Good luck to you. We all need it.

The math was telling me one thing, but I simply couldn't let it go...

Thanks for confirming.

You as well.

We all swim against a mighty current. Just keep swimming.

Well said buddy.

It is true that mostly noobs voted on your post, and that didn't hold enough weight to push up the value of the post. I am sure you are aware all votes are not equal.

I disagree that only noobs are voting (at all). That is just who voted on this post.

Reasons could be... Larger users don't tend to do follow for follows. (They don't need followers that much and many are opposed to the concept) - Consider: Post information that reaches a larger audience.

Another reason could be - Not enough people and visibility.

Maybe both.

My apologies, I didn't mean to say that only minnows upvote in this community and I can totally see how you would have interpreted what I wrote (because its what I wrote...ugh). I was intending to say only n00bs upvoted on this singular post.

I appreciate your advice. Posts that hold interest in a broader audience will definitely provide more exposure, makes perfect sense to me.

Click on the little dropown button near 'Votes'... you will see a list or steemers who all voted you.. my experience says, it is arranged according to reputation score of the steemer...
The steemer with higher reputation will likely to have higher Steem Power, and higher payout for you... You may get lucky if a Whale (high rep score) likes your post and Upvotes, and may be resteem...

Thanks for the tip! I didnt realize they were sorted by steem power, good to know.

Happy steeming!

Where are the whales upvoting this post?

It's hard not to associate earnings with quality content - This is a great and relevant piece and that should in some way be reflected in the earnings. It's a shame it's not.

Keep writing, I'll be following you :)

Thanks bud, appreciated.

Good luck steeming!
