There should be an optional setting to allow or hide #NSFW content. Let's face it, like @drinkzya said,
"I'd totally prefer not to see a thumbnail of somebody's privates while I am at work."
And I totally agree. Work, or at home, it should be optional to opt out these posts. Relatably, I hope there are ways to filter out specific keywords as Steemit develops...the anoynmous world can be ugly.
As far as a method or suggestion to work with NSFW content, I think adding an optional setting to opt out would be appropriate, and any content deemed #NSFW should be flagged down for this reason, and after so many votes, the post can be penalized by hiding the thumbnail. I feel this would be fair, as we are not removing the post itself.
I would also suggest that enough upvotes are to negate the flags; build an algorithm that determines at a ratio when to waive the flag's penalty. If someone's account is flagged enough from multiple posts, there should be punishment to that account. A possible punishment idea would to suspend the account for X amount of minutes, or temporarily disable their ability to flag after a rapid number over a short period of time.
However, this could cause united attacks on posts, which may cause harm, but we should be allowed to view who flagged the specific content. If that person is notorious for flagging for false reasons, that person should be penalized per some sort of Terms of Service causing grief.
There should be a flag for content posted in the wrong section and one for spam type content and one when you feel the user has copied or plagiarized. And yes the second part of that should be true as you've said to prevent people from falsely using the alert/flag system.
And lastly, if the option to enable multiple flag (per reason), this may help prevent bot's flagging without valid reason to try to create difficulty to crawls the server/post requests.
If NSFW does not have a way to be filtered, I personally feel it could interrupt the continued growth of Steemit. We all want it to be successfully ran, and not full of bots that post pornographic material and upvote each other.
I hope I'm not the only one who feels this way, and I do hope this all makes as much sense to you as it did in my head.
Anyone else have any suggestions?
You aren't the only feeling this way....but this Steem thing is so flippin new and growing so fast. I am proud of this site, blog, whatever you want to call it for keeping it together as well as it has.
Let's keep this post promoted. I'm not going to beg for upvotes, but I know the creators and developers are also reading these posts. The louder we get, they'll hear us eventually.
I totally agree. This place is great, the concept is excellent. And I would hate to see anything of the explicit nature start polluting STEEMIT. I support your point of view and upvoted your post.
#STEEMIT #DOYOURPART Let's keep this going! Thanks for the support! @dan @ned @dantheman any thoughts? :)
I for one agree. I fully believe everyone has the right to read and post what they wish, however, it should not be forced upon those who prefer not to see it.
The opt out would benefit everyone, you could choose what you want to see and I honestly believe that would make everyone happy. Because the reality is that people are making posts to get votes, and if somebody prefers to not see certain subjects, they would never vote for them anyway.
On a side note, LOVE the steemit coffee logo!!! Is it your's? Can I use it too???
I believe the logo may be a part of the actual Steemit website. :) I could be wrong, maybe @dan or @ned can confirm or not haha.
But I do feel this would so viable, and if NSFW does not have a way to be filtered, I personally feel it could interrupt the continued growth of Steemit. We all want it to be successfully ran, and not full of bots that post pornographic material and upvote each other.
for sure it is in the best interest of all, and I am confident that @dan and @ned will see it that way too!
That'd be a great idea. There should be some sort of guidelines however because some things are definitely nsfw and some things skirt the edges. People who post nsfw material and don't tag it as such should have their account suspended for a certain length of time. Also everyone as a community should be able to vote on what they deem nsfw content. I think that will allow a future where children can be a part of the system without parents fearing posts they do not wish their children to see will randomly appear or for those offended by such content.
I would suggest that enough upvotes would negate the flags. Build an algarithm that determines at a ratio when to waive the flag's penalty. And that's a great idea, if someone is flagged enough from multiple posts, there should be punishment. A possible punishment idea would to suspend the account for X amount of minutes. However, this could cause united attacks on posts, which may cause harm, but allow to view who flagged what content. Just talking off my head here.
There should be a flag for content posted in the wrong section and one for spam type content and one when you feel the user has copied or plagiarized. And yes the second part of that should be true as you've said to prevent people from falsely using the alert/flag system.
This needs to implemented.
Is this not already implemented? I've never seen a NSFW-tagged post in the main streems, and NSFW posts that aren't tagged appropriately get downvoted quickly.
They're coming...I saw a nipple earlier at work!
lol. just noticed the dates on this post.
that’s funny!
I lack knowledge to make constructive suggestions. I appreciate your “tastes” I suppose but I think this is a complex problem. Why do we like to answer the hardest questions? Can we mastermind answers together through true thought engaging interactions? We can try if only I made enough sense! Where to start? I guess it’s starting here. So how can you govern bad taste? slippery subject!
