Like many here I'm sure, I follow my fair share of underprivileged (or formerly) accounts that produce quality material. I doubt I will ever follow more than 70 accounts though and will likely stop following several popular accounts to reach that number. I'm going to see those accounts posts in the trending section most every time they post anyway. No need to follow those types of accounts.
And there's that too. We can only upvote so many people per day without draining our voting power. My method is to follow 50-70 accounts, upvote the posts I like in my feed and then head over to "new" and try to discover some new accounts posting good material. If they repeatedly post good stuff, I'll give them a follow.
We all have our methods I guess. I haven't really changed how I upvote from what worked prior to v8.4 when only the bot wang out curated this account (meaning we were the two biggest losers in the decision not to go with v8.2).
I'm not sure how not changing the method has worked out, but at this point I'm not really looking for curation rewards. I could never make another dime on Steemit and be very happy with the results prior to 7/4. I continue to upvote what I like.
Speaking of that, @business has recently stepped up his Steem-game and is posting some good stuff that I think others will appreciate. He's definitely worth a blip on your follow radar.

Meh if you spend 4+ hours a day on Steemit, one can manage 200-300 followings I bet :p
I also think voting power dissipates too quickly, so hopefully that gets looked at one day.
