Our trip to Philly was full of adventure both wanted and unwanted. Unfortunately, within 12 hours of being off the plane, I started experiencing what I now know was gallbladder pain and ended up in the Thomas Jefferson University Emergency Department. They were awesome and patient although we didn't figure out what was wrong with me then they put a patch on via pain medication and off I went. (this was not my first ER visit with this pain but last time resulted in an expensive CT scan that showed nothing)... So we continued. We stayed in an airbnb place on South Street which was totally worth it (minus the 3 flights of steps).
There was so many mom and pop places + Whole Foods and CVS on this street. We were right up the road from "water ice" as well as a hop skip away from the major attractions. We did an evening dinner cruise which was absolutely beautiful. We hit Chinatown where we had some hot soup dumplins and bubble tea after visiting the US Mint and doing a self guided tour. We then went to Reading Terminal Market where we hopped in a long line to get Beiler donuts after we watched them make them, as well as ate peking duck, and had a roasted pork sandwich from Dinic's.
Visiting the Mutter Museum was truly a highlight of the trip for me. Chris sat outside because he's not into medical stuff and we had already been to the ER . So the museum overall is small but it has some heavy hitting pieces. I skipped most of the neurological pieces and headed straight for my favorite organ- the uterus. There were some demos of the uterus, placenta representations, as well as tumor demonstrations. Overall, it was a great collection. I finished my tour with a stop to the museum gift shop and a customary selfie outside.
Overall, Philly was fun but I don't know that I would go back. We spent a total of $75 on Ubers for the week and walked a bunch of places but this city is just too busy for this midwest girl.
My home city. What a great place.
It's a busy place!!! I would certainly lose alot of weight living there!
