RE: Suggestions category - Weekly report: #19

in #utopian-io6 years ago (edited)

Hi @favcau, thank you for the prize. I feel shame a bit that I got the prize with this low score :)

But I have some reasons. First, I intentionally didn't participate actively, since I also hoped that others win the prize. Second, more importantly, I think some of my posts were too undervalued. To be honest, I don't think they were properly treated. Of course I understand that the value on the suggestions can be very different depending on people. But a unique (and important, of course this is subjective I have to admit :) suggestion on a project that is heavily used in so many apps gets virtually lowest score, even lower than a usual suggestion (of feature which already exists on other apps) for an app that is not widely used? This really doesn't make sense to me. Ironically it was one of my best suggestions to me.

To be clear, I'm not taking about the score itself. The score itself isn't that important actually. Voting is also not that important. Even the maximum vote can't cover contributor's time-value. Reviewers should carefully choose expressions. This is not only for their comments but also for review system message.

For instance, "This contribution adds nearly no value to the open source community and ecosystem or the specific project." shouldn't be chosen unless it's unarguably apparent. Of course I know it's just auto-generated message for the lowest score for that evaluation section. But I still think that message itself should be rephrased.

In sum, I sometimes (of course not always) feel that a review is done just for review. I really wish if there could be a review system on reviews. This may be one reason why we don't have many good suggestions. But I know reviewers don't get paid well so this is very difficult to solve. Another reason of not many good suggestions may be the lack of PO's response. If they don't care, contributors lose motivation.

ps. I'll donate 15 STEEM again (but if possible, please start it from May since I think until April some bounty is already secured). I originally planned to donate much more, but I'd like to keep some for my too much undervalued suggestions this time :) By the way, how did steemsql that @arcange agreed? If it's given as well, I'll donate more. Thanks.

Rules are rules, you finished in first place, so you are the winner.

I think that I know what post are you talking about, but please, write this on Discord, link the post and tag the moderator. I know that you are not complaining but you deserve a better response.

Indeed, it should be rephrased. I am not a big fan of using a questionnaire to score a contribution, but this is what we have at the moment. I beliave that this will be improved. For example, I prefer this feature more than some fixed options.

We (CMs) always check the comments made by the Mods. If you sometimes feels like that, then there is a problem of comunication in our side. If this happens again, please contact us on Discord.

Sure. Thanks.

By the way, how did steemsql that @arcange agreed?

I told him that in my opinion those subscriptions will be more useful for Analysis contributors since our contributors barely use those services. I suggested to our Analysis CM that he could give a subscription to Staff picks authors, but he never replied back.

Thank you for your feedback.

but he never replied back.

I fully disagree with what you wrote!

I told you on discord:

Feel free to suggest him to get in touch with me.

You said "thank you" then I got no news from amybody!

The CM from the Analisys Category never replied back.

My bad. I should have read your comment more carefully :/

Hi @arcange, as @favcau wrote, I think you're confused as to who 'he' refers. Based on favcau's comments, 'he' isn't you but CM of Analysis.

Yep, I see it now

Hi @favcau, thank you so much for your kind word. While I also thought about asking on discord, but if possible (unless rejected) I don't want to bring up the issue too publicly. While it's true that I was quite discouraged, I'll try to submit suggestions again if I have a good idea. Thank you so much!

By the way, how did steemsql that @arcange agreed?

I had a quick chat with @favcau on Discord, then no more news. See my reply to him on this post.

Hi @arcange,

Here to me it seems you agreed to donate steemsql subscription to the winner (it's me by the way :) of ideas category. But I heard that you changed your mind after talking to favcau. free extension of any length would be great but even if you don't, I'm absolutely fine. Don't worry.

But still if you donate, it'd be great :) imho, there is a reason why the prize was introduced. There are not many good suggestions post. While I agree that idea post doesn't necessarily require steemsql in many cases, some authors like me is using it and contributing to multiple categories. Even if they haven't used before, It can also be a good incentive for them to be a long-term user :)

ps. I found a data integrity problem in steemsql: a user 'ziface18''s id is '2.2.113186' not '113186' which took me quite a time to figure out the problem in my query before :( I deserve a free subscription anyway haha :) Actually I don't understand why id isn't int type from the beginning. were you worried the situation that num of steem users grow to the moon? :) Thanks!

ps2. I'm even using steemsql for bug-hunting too! One of my recent staff picked bug-hunting [Busy] Voting percentage update problem - cause and fix used steemsql :) Thanks!
