Omni notes is an awesome note-taking android application ability to create notes using audio recordings, videos, multiple photos and it also allow the setting of colour for each tag in order to highlight notes in a list. It also allows for ordering of notes using criteria and has automatic recognition for web urls, phone numbers and e-mails.
However, the ability to import and export notes on this app is only limited to backing up on the phone. For instance, if you want to backup your notes, you have to save backup on phone only. You can also import and export to phone or memory card alone. This is not really a good option as it makes it difficult for someone to be able to get back your backup in cases which your phone crashes and you have to format or reset the phone.
Proposal
In order to avoid this issue, I suggest that the Omni notes app should include the ability to make backups to google accounts directly. It should also allow the ability to import and export from google account directly in order to save time searching for backups from phone or second storage. There should be a way to schedule google backups such as daily, weekly and such so that user would not loose access to notes saved on the app.
Mockups / Examples
When a user wants to backup/restore on Omni notes, user has to go to Settings - Data- Sync and Backups - Backup which gives you this page.
However, user has limited option in backing up as backup is to local storage only as shown here.
Hence it is suggested that users should be given the choice to be able to back up to google accounts, email and then local storage as shown below.
The same thing happens when user clicks the Restore and Delete Backups button in Ominotes, it takes you to this page.
This page should likewise be improved by allowing users to restore from Google Accounts, email and then local storage as shown below.
Benefits
This saves the user a lot of stress as doing back ups, import and export will be done automatically without stress. Also, there won’t be too many backups left on the phone as with the current method only available right now. Finally, the user would have an online backup linked to his or her Google account irrespective of the phone.
