Pesawat jenis Dakota dengan nomor sayap RI-001 yang diberi nama Seulawah ini dibeli dari uang sumbangan rakyat Aceh. Pesawat Dakota RI-001 Seulawah ini adalah cikal bakal berdirinya perusahaan penerbangan niaga pertama, Indonesian Airways. Pesawat ini sangat besar jasanya dalam perjuangan awal pembentukan negara Indonesia.
Pesawat Dakota DC-3 Seulawah ini memiliki panjang badan 19,66 meter dan rentang sayap 28.96 meter, ditenagai dua mesin Pratt & Whitney berbobot 8.030 kg serta mampu terbang dengan kecepatan maksimum 346 km/jam.
