“Your background does not have to keep your back on the ground.” This is indeed a very strong and inspirational word. Last night I saw a post on facebook and I was inspired to know more about this wonder kid. Natalie Wumbui
Natalie Wumbui is a citizen of Kenya, a 10 years young lady in class five. At age 10 she has published 3 books endorsed by her country’s president, at age 10, she is an ambassador of Beyond Zero, a program that was started by the Kenyan first lady to provide better maternal care for mothers while giving birth. She is also a poet, a public and inspirational speaker. You might be wondering how a 10 year old can inspire you with her speech. Watch her latest inspirational talk below. At age 10 she has inspired and challenged a lot of matured minds positively.
What’s her story?
She was raised by a single mother, her parents couldn’t settle start a family of their own because of culture, though both parent are Kenyan but from different culture, they had to separate while she was two months in her mother’s belly. Life didn’t stop there, her mother’s family were strict Christian family, so they couldn’t accept her in her condition.
Natalie and Mum
Priscillah ‘Braveheart’ has she is fondly called (Natalie’s Mum) lived on the street for 2 months, at 4months of pregnancy she was rescued by a church watch man. He sheltered her in a church that he was guarding in the city until she was 2 weeks to her expected due date of delivery. A good Samaritan rescued her from living in a church – rented her a small place to live and paid her maternity fees.
At age 4 Natalie encountered another crisis, Natalie developed some heart problems. She had to stay in a hospital and undergo surgery. She was in so much pain and could not write. The doctors encouraged her to communicate to them through writing and every day she would describe how she felt through writing. Slowly she began keeping journals every day.
After recovering from the surgery, her passion for writing never stopped. She also loved the idea of reciting everything she has written. Hence her talent for reading and writing was natured.
The role of Her Parent.
Family and friends saw a great seed in Natalie. In the words of Priscillah ‘Braveheart’ Natalie’s Mum“One evening friends came to our house for dinner and they saw many files in her room containing things she had written over the years. They challenged me to publish for her. After much thought, I decided to work hard and I published.” The people around her was sensitive to her gift, they encouraged her Mum to do something about. So many talent are wasting on the streets, inventors, revolutionists, Nobel laureates e.t.c because no one was sensitive enough to guide.
Even after publishing her 1st book Natalie’s Poems Marketing it was difficult, but the mother never gave up. Even at the time when marketer gave the mother reasons to give up on promoting the book, she still persisted until Natalie’s dream came through. She wanted to meet her country’s president, The country’s first lady cleared her schedule just to have a meeting with this young brilliant mind. At the end of the meeting she was made a brand ambassador.
Enjoy one of Natalie’s Poem
“As I grow older from year to year
Began thinking of the number of years I turn
Kept wondering what I do with them
But still God keeps adding me….”
