Unai Emery is closing in on the first signing of his Arsenal reign.
Juventus defender Stephan Lichsteiner looked set to be the first one through the door while Dortmund's Sokratis Papastathopoulos is also heavily linked.
But it appears PSG teenager Yacine Adli will be Emery's first recruit, having knocked back an offer from the French champions.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are ready to intensify their efforts to bring in Nabil Fekir from Lyon.
The Frenchman is their top target following the arrival of Fabinho and he wants the move before the World Cup.
There has been no bid as of yet but the Reds are poised to make their move.
The two Manchester clubs are also looking to get some early business done as the busy summer kicks into action.

Bale
So much has happened in last few hours.
Firstly Zidane quits, then Chelsea shelve their stadium plans. Then Everton announce their new boss.
From a transfer, what does Zidane leaving mean for Bale?
The Welshman dramatically kicked the door open to a move away from La Liga giants moments after winning the Champions League on Saturday with his comments at full-time.
The 28-year-old publicly expressed his disappointment at his lack of game time for Los Blancos this season.
“I need to be playing week in, week out and that has not happened this season,” he said.
“I had an injury five, six weeks in but I’ve been fit ever since.
“I have to sit down with my agent in the summer and discuss it.”
In the days following, Real Madrid’s Kiev hero has found himself heavily linked with a move to Manchester United.
However, should a new manager come in and give Bale the playing time he so dearly desires than he could end up staying.
Everton to confirm appointment of Marco Silva with ex-Watford boss agreeing three-year deal
Everton are set to confirm Marco Silva as their new manager later today.
The Portuguese will replace Sam Allardyce at Goodison Park after agreeing a three-year deal.
Everton had initially wanted Silva, then at Watford, to replace Ronald Koeman back in October and were willing to offer £10m to prise him away.
Watford held firm but sacked Silva in January, blaming Everton’s approach for their dip in form.
They made an official complaint to the Premier League over an illegal approach for Silva, forcing Everton to negotiate an agreement with the Hornets.
He was Everton’s first choice to replace Allardyce with Silva now linking up with new director of football Marcel Brands.
