What is Counter (Open Source)?

Counter is an open source tally counter for Android. It makes counting easier. You can have multiple counters with their own names and values. Values can be changed using volume buttons. No ads. No unnecessary permissions required. This is an open source application.

Component(s)

The author of this contribution post is using an android open-source application named “ Counter ”. As he was using the said android application, he had noticed that there is something lacking and somehow it is bothersome. In the section of the application wherein you can press these buttons...

...there is a high possibility that while using “ Counter ” as you are counting, you will encounter some trouble on the said section of the application.

Example Situation (To know and better understand the importance of this suggestion)

The situation wherein you are using “ Counter ” as you are counting and then you decided to pause for a while (Example: you want to take a break for a long work of counting) but you left your smartphone unlocked and easy to reach/grab by other people in your place. Once someone tried to get your smartphone from the place where it has been placed, that person who got your smartphone do not have any idea of what you are doing with the running application in it and then there is also a situation wherein you forgot what number you are already in. The person handling your smartphone accidentally pressed the mentioned buttons above. Therefore, the last number where you are already in when you had paused will be added or subtracted. Meaning, it will be changed unexpectedly and so there is a possibility that you will start counting from the start again or you stop using the said application since it's purpose will become void. With this kind of situation, any user of the said application will be having such undesirable point of view and actions with the said application.

Proposal

From the given situation above, the title of this contribution suggests that the developers of Counter should add a LOCK AND UNLOCK BUTTON BESIDE THE PLUS AND MINUS BUTTON. Also, by the time that a user pressed the " LOCK AND UNLOCK BUTTON ", he/she will be " asked for a Four (4) Digit PIN ". Since there is a lock and unlock button, other people who do not have any idea of what you are doing with the running application on your phone will realize that you are doing something important which should not be interfered. In order to make this suggestion possible, the Counter developers should make some enhancement on their application from which this suggestion will be included and so as to be implemented. To make this suggestion easier to interpret, the author of this contribution post provided the current format as well as his suggested format.

Benefits

  1. Security of the main tasks involving Counter (referring to counting) will be insured while you are doing other things aside as well as it will not cause any trouble or negative point of view and comments for the application.
  2. Any user could avoid counting and start from the beginning again due to happenings of the given situation above.
  3. The number of users of the said android application will increase thus making it reliable, efficient and useful. This new feature will be beneficial to both the managements and its users in the sense that both of them will be able to have enhancements and developments.
  4. New development in the feature of Counter (Android Open Source App) since it will be a new milestone to be achieved by the developers.
