Project Details

Gdevelop is an open source, cross-platform for developing games.

It provides a unique opportunity to any game-lovers around the world, to follow their imagination and create fascinating mobile and Desktop games without the need to learn a specific programming language.

Thanks to this free invention, one can easily put together just from the way he/she imagines the chronology of events in mind, and put into reality a complete game with all its features with a click of a mouse. No coding needed.

This platform has been around since 2008. And yet, did not receive the proper credit, and our mission on utopian is to permit the use of such inventions to new communities and in my case to the Arabic community.

Contribution Specifications

  • Translation Overview

This is my second contribution to Gdevelop open source platform.

As requested by my language moderator, I tried to dive myself into the platform but I haven't attempted to create any game or scenario although it is going to be a good practice. however, I always make sure to understand every sentence that I'm about to translate and to imagine its right location inside the platform.

In this part, I went for a higher word count around 1300 words, because now I work on Crowdin during my duty period or when I'm home and surrounded by kids and I keep the writing of my article when I'm totally alone and that's why there might be a small gap between the time of translation and time of publishing so I hope this won't make any possible confusions because It's a little bit difficult for me to separate my actual work from contributing adding to that the housekeeping.

  • Languages

The Gdevelop is written in English, and it is being translated into Arabic.

  • In this session

Hi Bouchra,

Thank you for your contribution. It is a huge step for you to get into a project full of technical computer and technology terms and needs a bit of background to get up to speed in translation.

Concerning your post, I am happy to see that you are not falling into past mistakes done. You have a well-formatted article and you have sourced all material as noted before, however, I can still spot some grammar, punctuation and convention mistakes. In the future and as noted by Victor previously, we want to see more information about the problems faced and how did you make choices regarding certain translations especially those related to programming languages like object, a global object, elements, tags, functions, compilation, debugging and more. Everything should be well documented so we can work on a neat ground and come back to this presentation to determine if choices made are correct, if the coherence is achieved, and to discuss any problems.

Concerning the translations, you have fallen into lots of issues because of improper documentation and because you have ignored the other LM's notes:

  1. I did not vote any of the strings containing the word object as I don't see a settlement on the translation that needs to be chosen. There are also old translations approved that we need to ensure some coherence with them
  2. You have a good amount of inconsistency in your translation that has to be corrected
  3. There are also some good amount of spelling mistakes, punctuation, use of informal Arabic and some Grammar mistakes
  4. I have shared detailed notes with you on our team chat! Please have a good look

What needs to be done before your next contribution:

  1. Communicate to LM about a solution or a type of documentation for all technical terms that need to be consistent in all the project
  2. Correct all strings that were not voted/approved before your next contribution
  3. Prepare a well-formatted post with all required information, that makes it easy for anyone to know the problems faced, why did you choose the translations for the technical terms and what translations will you use from now on
  4. Contact me or the other Language Manager for assistance if required and so we can make your next contribution great again

Your contribution has been evaluated according to Utopian policies and guidelines, as well as a predefined set of questions pertaining to the category.
