Utopian.io rewards Open Source contributors with Steem using a bot that is powered by almost 4 MILLION SP.
The responsibility in managing such a big amount of SP is huge and we are constantly improving the bot to avoid either giving too much or giving too little. The change we just made is a complete new bot written from scratch, having different mechanisms than the one we had so far, that were not working well 100% of the time.
The Bot Now Follows The Human Input
- The Utopian Bot now votes after at least 6 hours the post has been submitted and reviewed by a moderator, in order for the post to gain enough visibility and votes.
- The bot calculates the weights used by every single human vote and uses those averages to decide its own voting weight.
Removed Penalisation For Automated Votes
- The bot does not penalise any longer bots but exclude the votes of automated bots from the weight calculation, therefore nulling the amount of rewards received from those bots when calculating the voting weight.
The Bot Has Now A 35% Maximum Cap
- The bot never votes over 35% in a single vote. We will increase this cap once the quality of the posts in Utopian has reached the required status to get higher compensation.
The Bot Never Wastes More Than 20% VP
- The Bot calculates the total amount of contributions on each category that must be voted and assigns a weight pool to them. Based on the weight calculated and the pool, the final score will be generated.
We Want To Help Small Accounts
- The Bot increases a little bit the voting weight for:
Accounts with less than 500 followers
Your first contribution on the platform
We Want You To Contribute Often
- The bot gives a bit more the more you contribute with quality contributions.
The Bot is Open Source https://github.com/utopian-io/api.utopian.io/blob/master/utopian-bot.js
Avoiding The Flagging War At Any Cost
There is a flagging war around and Utopian is not interested in participating. We are doing our best to keep the rewards reasonable and trying to respect and grow the ecosystem in every single action we do. We will keep doing our best, we will keep moderating our platform and increasing its quality.

Good updates! In need of these changes lets reward open source and not get political.
I just learned about Utopian, and I am trying to figure out the best way to contribute. I am a junior level developer really wanting to build my skills, and earn an income as well. Is it possible for someone to do some kind of manual on how to get started, or does one already exist? I saw the video by @jerrybanfield and I set up an account, but I still feel overwhelmed. Any tips?
Hi @udochiokeke ! As a matter of fact, in the last 10 days I've published 2 "Guides" that partially answer your question:
-1- A Conceptual Guide to Make it Big on Steemit
-2- How to Learn Programming - A Beginner's Guide
and
-3- It is indeed possible, as a Junior dev, to get involved for the Utopian Movement, and get rewarded as well! Just log in (with your Steemit account, it works via "SteemConnect") at https://utopian.io , look around for some categories you might be interested in and their rules for contribution, I'd suggest pick a good interesting topic and choose "new Blogpost" to begin with (almost no rules, good starting point). Publish via Utopian, your post will be reviewed from the new-posts-stack by a Utopian Mod, and eventually (currently, in a bout a day) by the Utopian-IO bot (which I'm trying to improve myself via my proposal mechanism How-to solve SPAM on Steem: Introducing UserAuthority
Good luck, and see you!
PS: you're indeed also welcome to the Utopian chatserver on Discord via this url: https://discord.gg/Pc8HG9x
Hi @udochiokeke You can contact us on Discord. maybe someone there can give you an idea. ;)

Great improvements! Thanks for helping small accounts like me
hi
Boo!
Sounds awesome improvements.
What about the latest errors on bot.(Well, I thought there's some kind of error, not sure)
I removed your vote manually and add it back soon. It was obviously a wrong vote. @katteasis
Oh, I see Thanks for replying back!!👍🏻
my vote and the comment left was also removed, did I do something wrong? It was my first post made on utopian :-(
No @paulag you just deserved much more. I am gonna fix that too.
Liked it,
Somedays ago,I posted a contribution post. @utopian-io detected bot vote and voted for a little amount.I have a question. What will I do if any bot votes my post?
Thank you very much for everything you do in the community
Success for all of us
All that upvote bots auto comments, with invasive pictures and gifs (goats and animated whales everywhere) are not going to look too good or professional in Utopian.io // Unless are auto hidden (suggestion).
You mean that one related to upvote bots? if so, allowing upvoting bots will bring it to Utopian.io // If not, I am not sure.
Good news
Thanks for information
Hello sir @elear. Can I ask something, what happen to those article approved who hasn't voted yet by Utopian before the major update? Is Utopian still vote it?
Thank you for the useful update. I'm looking for an opportunity to contribute to utopian.io. First let me create an account & look for the FAQ!
Good updates! bro steemit
Seen @utopian-io is changing in a positive way. Awesome!
How about those post votes receiving vote error (% weight)?
How can i become a moderator for @utopian-io project. It is a great platform to associate with. great work you are really doing @elear.
Many thanks for the update. This helps a lot. Does the vote still heavily rely on length of the posts for translation category? We were kinda forced to lengthen the post but now are advised to remove part of the translation example as it gives moderators hard time to review the whole posts. Would really be helpful if numbers of strings and words be considered instead of length of the post. My two cents. Again, we appreciate all that utopia team have been doing. With time and improvements, I have no doubt that utipian-io will be number one project as @elear visioned.
No it does not take the length in consideration now @susanli3769
Awesome! Thanks!
how to use this bot..? any guide link will be appreciated... :)
good luck
"The bot calculates the weights used by every single human vote and uses those averages to decide its own voting weight."
I am just curious how that exactly works. Wouldn't something like voting bots be able to exploit this?
