This is garbage and I'm shocked that the community here is so open to anti-vaccine crap like this. Are people just afraid to post negative comments for fear of downvoting leading to reputation loss? I'm honestly very curious. How am I the only one posting a negative comment to this?
Vaccines are one of the greatest inventions of humankind. Correlation does not equal causation, and every time two things look related, question if there's not another variable involved.
Diabetes is not caused by vaccination. Think if it's possible that something else could be a causal factor. Look at all the data. Compare to control groups using a large sample.
Here is one: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11731639
In this large, population-based, case-control study, we did not find an increased risk of type 1 diabetes associated with any of the routinely recommended childhood vaccines. Our study adds to previous research by providing data on newer vaccines, including hepatitis B, acellular pertussis, and varicella vaccines. For the older vaccines, our results are generally in agreement with previous studies in not finding any increased risks. Ours is the first epidemiologic study to evaluate the possibility that timing of vaccination is related to risk of clinical diabetes in children. Our results on hepatitis B vaccine do not support the hypothesis; risk of type 1 diabetes was not different between infants vaccinated at birth and those who received their first vaccination later in life. The results of our study and the preponderance of epidemiologic evidence do not support an association between any of the recommended childhood vaccines and an increased risk of type 1 diabetes. Suggestions that diabetes risk in humans may be altered by changes in the timing of vaccinations also are unfounded.
Yes, it is entirely possible for someone to get diabetes after a vaccination, but you have to also compare to a control group and compare the two. If there is no difference, the vaccination is not the causal factor.
Anecdotes are not evidence. Always apply the scientific method to determine what is false. The hypothesis that vaccines CAUSE diabetes are false.
Completely agree. Diabetes 1 is a disease you inherit - it is genetic and has nothing to do with vaccines - there is nothing strange about getting it as a kid either - has happened to thousands of children before and after vaccines. Happily - you can live a full life these days thanks to modern medicine.
It's not actually completely inherited. You inherit a risk, not the diabetes type I itself.
There are quite many factors which increase the risk of getting type I diabetes, in my current knowledge you get a type of enterovirus which will destroy the cells creating insulin. The virus can be transmitted earlier and it will activate after a few years, so in some cases, the signs can be seen even months before the diabetes actually "starts".
true.
Thank you so much for commenting this- I was starting to worry about the health of the steemit community.
