For Valencians the days during La Planta are way more exciting than unwrapping presents at Christmas. The pieces of the big Fallas Figures are slowly arriving in the plazas, being all protected by see through foil to reveal a little but keeping you guessing how the final figure would look like.
We love walking around Valencia on these early Fallas days, watching the artists at work unpacking and assembling the pieces by maneuvering giant cranes. In this post I'm sharing some photos and a video of La Planta and in case your still confused what Fallas is, read about it via this link on our Valencia Travel Blog.
There are about 500-600 Fallas figures small and big spread throughout the city of Valencia every years. And they all have to be done by tomorrow morning (March 16th) before the jury comes to inspect this year's work. This year some of the figures fell over due to very strong winds. The artists still have 24 hours to fix them all up!

Want to have your post on the map too?
it's really amazing that the whole town - maybe the whole area is celebrating Fallas for so many days in a row...
Any favourite before the "Plantà"?
Loved looking at Na Jordana but seeing the final figure, you would have never guessed by the smaller pieces being all wrapped up.
Such an amazing tradition. I was there for a few months back in 2003. Unfortunately I had to leave without getting to experience the event. My girlfriend at the time sent amazing pics that made me regret leaving so soon. One day I'll experience it firsthand. Thanks for sharing!
We first moved to Valencia 5 years later, in 2008. Valencia changed a bit over these years. You should come and visit again and see Fallas for yourself. How did your girlfriend like the fireworks?
I definitely plan on it! I don't remember what she said about the fireworks as it was so long ago. What I do remember was how amazed she was with the burning of the Fallas. She took lots of pictures of them on fire. I look forward to experiencing it for myself one day.
Trying to get our post about the burning up asap, it was so intense. I still feel like a roasted chicken. Hehe.
Haha nice, keep me posted!
