From what I can see, it looks like smart TVs and smartphones have been compromised.
PCs, Macs, Linux machines might be compromised too, but that's more fuzzy...
I thought it was 2017, but I guess it's 1984.
I hope antivirus companies can get on this ASAP.
We need to band together and fix this. They can't do this to us. We will not go quietly into the night.
The infosec community's been loudly yelling about the terrible security for IoT devices for years. People buy them without paying any heed to the security of them. Buyer beware? :)
They are, of course, by the CIA as well as every other well-funded group on the planet. There are markets where these exploits are traded.
AV software won't help you when your OS or firmware is compromised, sorry.
IMO Kaspersky (in Russia) is one of the only AV companies that hasn't been completely compromised to give the illusion of security whilst allowing US govt trojans. And they probably allow Russian ones instead :P
There is no magic fix for security, and centralising trust in AV companies is just as dangerous ..
Also, its 2017 not 2007 ;)
Fixed.
Also, I suppose that's true. We need some kind of plan of action.
Anyone have any idea what we can do?
