We went vegan 18 months ago after watching the documentary What the Health (on Netflix), mainly for health reasons.
I suffer from a rare inflammatory disease called messenteric panniculitus. So when I found out that ingesting any animal products causes inflammation I thought I would give being vegan a try.
I will not go into my results concerning health in detail but suffice it to say it's been a huge improvement in our health. Plus I lost almost 100 lbs.
Then yesterday I wondered, since I've been vegan for 18 months, just how many of the planets resources have I actually saved, so I googled it. And guess what? I happy to find that there's a site that will calculate how much of the planet's resources you have saved.
I was astounded of how much one person can save by doing such a small thing.
In the 18 months I've been a Vegan here is what I have saved:
- 599,500 Gallons of Water
- 21,800 lbs. of Grain
- 16,350 Sq. Ft. of Forest
- 10,900 lbs. of C02
- 545 Animals
It's should be obvious to us all that our leaders and governments have failed us and it's really up to us. You and I are left to fix this thing one small thing after another. One individual going vegan does have a small effect but multiply that by billions of humans and then you have some serious savings.
