I agree and over time in pursuing Fruitarianism have come to recognize the same rights in even lesser respected conscious beings we call Plants. Fruit is the only food source for humans that involves zero suffering, work or toil to produce. Vegetables have to be picked and killed in order to be consumed, technically. No judgement here, and I still eat vegetables myself, but ultimately by definition it is the same thing as killing animals when it really comes down to it. Fruit is a genuine gift of love from Gaia, from the divine Tree of Life, which does not require any suffering to consume, nor does it require any effort or toil to produce (growing vegetables is very labor intensive). The concept is a stretch for most people, especially non-vegans... but "food for thought." :)

Under anesthesia people don't experience pain. Some sort of consciousness might be there but when asked people can't really relate to it. We have everything to gain from respecting our environment and I'm convince fruitariasnism is the most appropriate diet for humans but suffering and sentience as animal experience it can't be infer from what we know, in fact what we know seems to prove they aren't sentient.
