Venezuela is on the threshold of a famine, so the Caritas Foundation urged the government of Nicolás Maduro to declare a "humanitarian emergency" in the country.

Susana Rafalli, representative of the organization, estimated that 4.5 million Venezuelans eat once a day and sometimes every two days. He added that 80% of the population is not even able to eat three times a day, ABC reported.

"Severe child malnutrition has reached 15% in the month of last August, so we declared a humanitarian emergency," he warned.
