What is really happening in venezuela?

in #venezuela8 years ago

Currently, Venezuela is a common theme in all media in the world, and that's why in this post I'm going to tell you what we have lived in this country for several years. After more than 18 years in command, the current government of Venezuela has failed. Why? Every day we are poorer. How? Hyperinflation is killing us. For you to understand me, a nutella of 250 grams costs 3 minimum salaries. Imagine the sacrifice to buy shoes, a car, a house, it's almost impossible.

There are no medicines, no food, getting anything has become a LUXURY. My mother has been transplanted from kidney for 14 years and lately her drug supply has declined considerably. We have had to buy medicines in Colombia or Peru and the cost is very high because the government controls the dollars in the country so we do not have access to foreign currencies and the Bolivar, which is the Venezuelan currency, is very devalued. Thank God we have found a way to solve it, but what about people who do not have the same luck? Yes, they eventually die.

Yes, the subsidies are "real" but they are literally a pittance, for example: the student allowance is about 3 dollars per month. With that I can not even buy a subway sandwich much less afford my studies. I study at a public college and although it is supposed to be free, my classmates and I now rent rooms outside of the university to attend classes because the university does not have decent places to study. Buying a book is a luxury, most downloaded in PDF. There are many kids who eat only once a day to pay their bus fares and rent their room. Before the university offered transportation and food but these services are now outdated because there is no money to keep them.

I recently had the terrible experience of living repression. I was in medical school doing homework and I had to run and jump a fence because they threw tear gas into the school and I was drowning. The fence was deteriorated and with the help of my colleagues I could jump but my pants broke and I injured my legs. Then we had to run looking for a way to escape but everywhere there were guards who blocked our way, was a very frightening situation.

On May 24, Augusto Puga, a 21 years old boy who was studying at my university was shot in the head during the protest. Unfortunately he died. But he is only part of more than 60 dead who have left these days of protest against a new government measure that threatens to completely end our freedom, annulling all current laws, leaving us totally unable to exercise the few remaining rights .

I've thought about leaving many times and you have no idea how frustrating is to be so young and see how your life is wasted here. But I have hope, I want to get end my studies here and not abandon my family. Almost all my friends have left the country. Today, by the way, I will attend a farewell party for a friend who will move to Peru.

In Caracas, the capital of the country, is the place where there are more protests and repression. Every day the government closes the subway stations so you will imagine the chaos to be transported. To eat, the government grants a monthly bag full of the most basic products like rice, sugar and milk but not all have access. The supermarkets have food but it is too expensive so the salary is not enough, most people work to be able to eat. Things are not right here.

Everything what press says is real but the most important thing is that Venezuela is a very beautiful country with great potential and people that is in the wrong hands and we all want to save it.

just terrible what's going on in Venezuela. thank you for this great "in the trenches" view of it all. I wish you the best of luck surviving it, and wish more people in my country would wake up to the devastating consequences of socialism. Glad you found STEEMIT, as it puts you way ahead of the game. Hopefully you can get more to join as well.

As I wrote in one of my recent posts:

I mean, if you really think about it, imagine living in India, Venezuela, Greece, or any other number of countries where actual dollars are practically impossible to get after their respective governments hyper-inflate, block bank withdrawals, or outright cancel everyone's currency. Well, except for government officials and their well-connected "friends", of course.

However, for those computer-savvy and enlightened enough to know about SBD [Steem Dollars], those dollars could be worth 10x what they are to us living in (for now at least) more stable countries. And if they explain to their local grocer that they can "secretly" send them a form of hard-to-steal crypto USD trading at a premium, they may just be able to weather the storm and comfortably feed their family 'til the crisis subsides.

Thanks for sharing your story. People living all over the world should pay more attention to what is happening in Venezuela. Venezuela is what happens when a government mismanages the economy. Unless things change, it offers a frightening glimpse into the future for many now living in the Western, so called developed, world. Venezuela is a huge wake up call!

Yes, I hope that other people in the world will learn from this terrible situation and will not continue to support ideologies that deteriorate the social system.

Thank you for talking about Venezuela and thank fuck for places like Steemit and the internet in general where they can't censor everything. Here in the UK and other places if they do mention Venezuela it's completely in passing and I suspect it's to do with simply that a lot of the biggest media outlets are left wing and right now there is a major push in the UK to get a full on Socialist elected called Jeremy Corbyn. I'm really hoping that there will be an outright rejection of these ideologies no matter what the polls and the media keep saying and people don't get lured into this crap. They probably don't want these kinds of stories getting out and making people realise how utterly terrible full on anti-capitalist parties running a country can be.

I'm voting Conservative partly because I learned about what happened in your country it's turned me now into a borderline raging anti-communist and I'm pretty left leaning socially. Unfortunately because of the way the anti-capitalists are, you are likely going to have to have a civil war even if it's only brief in order to get rid of these people and stop them from ruining your country.

Yes, definitely the socialist ideology does not bring anything good for any country. I hope people learn from this hard experience that we are living and understand that they should NOT SUPPORT SOCIALIST IDEOLOGIES. Let's hope everyone there thinks like you hahaha thanks for reading me.

unfortunately this is the current status of a nation that has oil and other natural resources ...it has started with that stupid man Hugo Chávez and now the other monkey Maduro ..i hope the people would be able to change your leaders and go back to what Venezuela was before the socialism
..Mucha suerte

Yeah, that's what we're all waiting for.
Thanks for reading me

I pray for you and your people. This is what happens when socialism runs amok. I hope soon your government will fall due to it's own incompetence and that the people can be freed of the scourge of socialist/fascism that has brought your economy to ruin. I wish for a peaceful solution but it may be in vain. May you find peace and freedom.

Thank you, I am very happy that people are aware of the situation so serious here.

I feel sorry for your plight. This was and is always will be the price that will be paid for socialism. You live in a county with massive natural wealth in the form of oil. This wealth has been squandered on bribing the voters so as to maintain the status quo for the ruling elite. This cripples the investment in infrastructure and diversification into other industry's which would have insured the long term prosperity of your country. What Venezuela desperately needs is foreign investment but who in there right mind would invest there when any enterprise would likely be nationalized and that investment would be lost.

You say most of your friends have left the country my advice would be for you to as well. Venezuela has an average I.Q. of 84 which with all the smart people leaving is only going to get worse. Sorry to say but that does not bode well for the future implementation of a stable democratic government. Sorry if this is not a particularly "PC" statement but I deal in fact not emotion.

I have been keeping abreast of the situation in Venezuela for a couple of years now via alternative media as the mainstream media will not report on it. Being it fly's in the face of the cultural Marxist, socialist narrative being pushed on the rest of the Western democracies. Venezuela is the future for all of as should this become the norm. So I wish you all the best in whatever decision you take in the future and hope that Venezuela's plight might be a warning to the rest of the world.

Yes, this is a real tragedy. Socialism ended this country and gives me much sadness, Venezuela has so many resources to be an excellent place. Yesterday I was at the farewell of my friend. I understand your point about having to leave and it is an idea that is constantly in my head, let's see how things happen these months here. Thanks for reading me.

This is a photo of yesterday at the farewell party with my friend who will move to Peru.

The hyperinflation has completely ravaged the country. There is only so many things that can be transacted on the black market. I am glad your family has found a means of surviving! Hopefully, things will stabilize in your country!

Yes, thank God we were able to survive and not live ugly experiences. Thanks for reading me.

I am indeed sorry to know the state of affairs in Venezuela.

Yes, it is very sad. But things will get better.

Hope for the best

I'm so very sorry about what's happening in your beautiful country. Hoping that solutions are in order fast and the suffering stops. It all seems so unnecessary. Thank you for sharing this. It's difficult for me to believe what shows up in the mainstream media and I appreciate your insights. Wishing you well, upvoted and following you.

Thanks for reading me, I'm following you.
