Today is Veterans Day in the USA. formerly known as Armistice Day, on this federal holiday we honor those that fell in battle, and support those that are still fighting for survival today.
I've been connecting with fellow vets today, including with a tough, old Vietnam veteran who shared with us tales from a very different time in American history.
I was lucky in a way, as my time was well after his and I served in the comfort of "CIC" formerly known as the Combat Information Center as an Operations Specialist or "OS."
He on the other hand, was out there in the thick of things in a very different earlier era where boot camp was shall we say more muscular, less forgiving, and definitely not politically correct by any stretch of the imagination.
We both served in different ways in different times, and I have a lot of respect for the men who were out there "in it" and fought with honor and distinction.
Now our veterans (at least here in the US) fight a different battle against homelessness and a myriad of health issues. They're the forgotten ones as we prioritize assistance for other countries instead of taking care of our own long-suffering veterans first.
So I hope you'll join me in giving veterans their due today, thanking them for their service, and letting veterans know that we have their back when they need it the most. To those currently serving this veteran thanks you for your service.
To those who've attended their final muster and are no longer with us, we are inspired by your bravery and honor your sacrifice.
