Tirpentwys canyon (near Llanhilleth and Pontypool in South Wales) was created by the mining industry but now it's an accidental beauty spot. There are plans to ruin it by turning it into a quarry - it would be better as a tourist attraction
Planning permission was turned down last year but apparently the plans have resurfaced.
What’s the proposed purpose of the quarry? Drinking water , drainage?
I think they proposed a sandstone quarry. They were turned down because it would damage ancient woodlands but they are trying again to try and get around that.
