7 Fells // Äkäslompolo // Aika
All the shots were made during the winter in Finnish Lapland in a town called Äkäslompolo.
I was particularly amazed with the way the landscape lived and changed from day to day. With the harsh conditions of the arctic creating unique events that play with the moisture in the air and the surrounding fells shaping this moisture that was usually hanging low. On some days you could see a giant mist flowing over the fell like waves over an obstacle and then you realise, it truly is water.
During the winter the sunlight is scarce. On the peak of what we call 'Kaamos', also known as the polar night, we experience little to no sunlight at all during the day. Around the time of Christmas we arrive at winter solstice and begin inching towards more light again. So you really had to take the advantage of that little sun that you get during the day. During its peak you can only see the light from behind the horizon and then it disappears again.
But then again, it will be to a total opposite in the summer with nightless nights.
The music is a modern style singing of Yoiking. A traditional style singing of the Sami people. The indigenious people of Lapland.
And here's a couple bonus pictures of some auroras that I managed to capture :)
Enjoy the summer fellow Steemers! Winter is coming..
Amazing! However the snow could be gross in Canada after a lot of vehicle riding over them
The snow will stay on the roads when its cold enough and there has been enough of snowfall
