Whats popping my fellow Steemians, Marven here and today where going to look over what my favorite vlogging setup is so far for 2018. Hopefully for anyone getting into dtube this could be a starting point for you.
This setup is basically what i use to shoot & record all the video's and voiceovers i take regardless of if their a vlog or film, it goes to show you just how versatile this setup is for static and on the go shots.
The setup has evolved over the year but i have finally refined it to make it as minimal and **efficient **as i can possibly make it.
Camera
- Starting with the camera its my Sony a6300 this little mirroless camera is an absolute beast when it comes to auto-focus. Its an extremely light camera that doesnt trade size for quality. One caveat though with this setup is that the A6300 has no flip out screen so you really have to rely on the autofocus at all times. I know for most vloggers this is counter intuitive since you want to see yourself at all times but the auto-focus is just that good that it doesn't matter !!
Lens
- The Lens attached to my Sony a6300 is the Sigma 19mm 2.8, the bokeh out of this lens is killer. Its a little to zoomed in but I make it work. This is an extremely light setup, but for most people, I would recommend just sticking with the** 16-50mm kit lens **that comes with your a6300. Starting out being able to zoom in and out gives you more flexibility for time-lapses, framing and so much more. Plus extra lens kill your wallet I would rather you guys put that extra money into audio which is arguably more important!
Microphone
- The microphone that I'm using is the Takstar SGC- 598 this little beast is battery operated and one of the pride and joys of my setup. For only $25 the audio recording quality rival's my $50 rode video micro and the $85 Rode VMGo Video Mic Go. The audio quality is so good i even dedicated a whole video to it. Now one downside is the fact that you need to buy battery's for the mic but surprisingly enough I have used this mic for a solid 8 months and have never once needed to change the battery. This right here is absolutely pivotal, bad audio ruins all films, vlogs, voice-overs you name it. That's why I recommended earlier that most people put their lens money into audio
Tripod
- last but not least is my favorite piece of the whole setup the Sirui 3T-35K Tripod without this little piece the setup wouldn't come together at all. Its made out of carbon fiber so this guy is solid. This tripod is extremely versatile, it folds up to give you a nice grip and even extends out to double as a handheld pole/ selfie stick. I personally set it up on my desk and its always been stable, it also makes vlogging fun with the selfie stick aspect to give your viewers a more zoomed out perspective of you.
Here's how compact the whole setup looks:
Hope you guys enjoyed and got some insight into the gear I used and why. Don't forget to check me out on youtube/instagram for other bts and video content.
