ATTEMPTING TO FILM A NORTHERN WATER SNAKE UNDERWATER - BROADENING MY HORIZONS

in #video8 years ago

I have always loved capturing wild animals, even if it is just on film.

Most of the time, I really had no reason to do so though. It seems that few people print out photos these days and carrying a camera half the places that I wind up can be difficult. Since I am now able to share more of what I love doing, I thought that I may try taking things to the next level. I’m kind of easing into this, so I purchased a low-end, $30 underwater camera from a discount store the other day.

glasses for under the water." Thankfully, the man knew what I meant. When I took the @little-peppers to the lake and we found out that the park was underwater, we kept on having fun in our own style. The @little-peppers had even brought some goggles and wanted me to try. I think the last time that I wore goggles swimming was probably in 2005 down in Acapulco. There were a lot of interesting fish in an underwater rock pile and I wanted to check them out. I had to string together some Spanish at the gift shop and asked the cashier for “anteojos para debajo del agua,” which pretty much means "

Anyway, We had found some animals there at the lake, and I got a chance to see what a Northern Water Snake looked like swimming under the water. Normally, I am outside of the water looking in, so this was a real treat. I thought, why not get an underwater camera and try to film it?

I wanted to start off slow, so I went with a cheaper camera, and the photos that I took underwater testify to that.

This cute little turtle just doesn't look so cute anymore.

I think that this would have made a fantastic shot too, with Pinkie-Pepper underwater checking out a Musk Turtle. Yes, the water was a little murky, but still. I think that I may go in for that upgrade. (The cover photo is of a different Northern Water Snake that I took with a different camera.)

get a chance to learn how to snorkel and the video was actually not that bad... at least not as bad as the photos. Have any of you ever saw a snake swimming under the water like this. In all my years of interacting with them, I had never actually stuck my head in the water and taken a look. At least I filmed it so you don't have to do it yourself. See what you think! The @little-peppers did

NORTHERN WATER SNAKE UNDERWATER

I think that if I spent a little more than $30, I could probably get an underwater camera that could do a much better job. What do you guys think? Should I give it a go and see what I can do?

Your adventures are exciting to read and see, so better camera would definitely enhance the experience :) thanks for sharing this, glad you had a good time with the little one.

Sure, give it a go and see what you can do😃

Thank you for your encouragement!

Nice! They swim so cool! Here's a video I took of one swimming in a Pond behind my old house:

Hmm I already don't like messing with endless and now its swimming....and your with it 😶
I'll just watch the video 😂

It was kind of like swimming with dolphins... for the snake! LOL!

Haha i know right, but that's why id stay away. A scared animal is an unpredictable one and i don't know snakes o.o

Have you looked into a GoPro? Seems like it would get you the best bang for you buck photo wise.

If that's a bit too expensive a cheap waterproof phone case meant for taking underwater photos can work wonders. The shots will be a bit cloudy and unfocused compared to a GoPro but they'll still be really good and it's a $20 or so investment. I got one in Key West prior to a expedition. It worked wonders and my phone never got a drop of water in it.

I was thinking about that. Thanks for suggesting GoPro!

No problem! Best of luck finding something :)

I want a snake pet now for some odd reason lol

Really don't have the guts to this not a fan of the snakes but i think you may just change my thoughts on things that slither.
ps great adventure

Thank you. I had a great time and was happy to give it a go.

that's all that really matters

How are you keeping up with the snake underwater?

To keep up with it I just had to swim the same speed. LOL, not sure otherwise. ;-)

Nice job keeping the camera stable. You swim like a fish.

Your kids must be having so much fun with your adventures . Great experience for them bud . Cheers

This is cool! A camera upgrade is definitely in order.

Nice thing about being underwater is the snake doesn't stink! Those are really musky

Yes, they can be really musky!

I love the turtle dude but the snake looks pretty mean.
Be careful buddy.
@tremendospercy

I will be careful. So far so good, so we will see what happens! Thanks!

Yeah man, don't do a Steve Irwin.
I loved that dude and a stingray got him in the end.
Bloody tragic.

is it a venomous snake. thank you for the video, dont have to snorkle to see the snake underwater. 😃😂😂

Nonvenomous. I can snorkel for you and share what I see!

waiting for your next videos. 😃😃

retrogamer would say -good story makes graphic irrelevant .) keep shooting

Thanks for that encouragement.

That snake can certainly move it

Definitely give it a go ! If they were cheaper, smaller, and more accessible, I'd tell you to get an underwater drone, then 'sic it on various creatures that it would then follow and film for a few minutes at a time. If you lived by the sea and wanted a hobby of filming them, this beauty would be perfect.

PS: You forgot the proof-of-filming-snake-underwater photo ;) (Though it might have been sliiightly more complicated than your normal photos XD)

LOL on the proof! Yeah, distracted and such!

And yes, buy a good megapixel camera that would make the pictures good or should I say the memories you spend with your kid would be good :')To be honest, the photo quality is little low due to low megapixel but that's not it the case. The thing is you've enjoyed taking the shots and the effort you put. Surely there's no fun elsewhere then to take some photos of something that have life and does things according to their wish. The turtles face and @little-peppers face is a great mashup :) @papa-peppers nice to see you are enjoying with your kid.

Thanks @mother98. I think that I will listen to mother. LOL

Lol. Listening to mother is always useful

@papa-pepper be careful mate! hope that snake is not dangerous. Great work, underwater shots often are beautiful to great extents, afterall our waters are still largely unexplored.

Thanks, I am glad that you liked it. I'll be careful!

it was a bit scary watching that, I don't have your kind of courage. that was daring!

I've been doing stuff like this all life, so it is not quite so daring for me.

interesting!

It's amazing that you were able to keep up with it! I think you may be able to give Coyote Peterson a run for his money!

Never heard of him, but he sure sounds interesting. Thanks @eyeofthestorm!

You're very welcome!

You can find him on Youtube --Brave Wildnerness - Coyote Peterson. Although I must say I'm enjoying your wildlife videos much more as they are more authentic - no staged drama or scripting. I also like the 'wildlife in your own backyard' aspect too as it's more relatable. I really think you may be on to something here--best of luck and I'm looking forward to more critters!

Very cool and exciting video! I'd say upgrade your camera if you plan to do more underwater videos. If you're only going to do underwater videos once in a great while, don't worry about it.

Thanks for the advice!

Mostly water snakes are venomous so you better have protection first than getting a good camera.

We only have one kind of venomous water snake in the US, the Water Moccasin. There are many other kinds of water snakes that are all nonvenomous, and this was one of them... although filming a venomous one could be fun. Thanks for the idea!

Consider filming the most venomous of all snakes, the faint banded sea snake. I heard some death cases here in our place. So creepy..

Btw, did you already funded 4 contests?

it is a very informative blog.....you may visit my blog also for interesting travel blogs i love to travel and i will be daily uploading about trips you can resteem my posts also ... follow me for interesting travel blogs

That looks like a younger one. Very cool to watch from an underwater view. Thanks for sharing.

Love the post! It's awesome! Looking forward to more posts as always <3 Have an amazing day!! :) Upvoted!

I say go for it! It's a passion of yours so having the right equipment is crucial for expressing what you want to convey. "jUsT Do It !?!"

I didn't realize how fast snakes can move underwater, that's pretty cool.

You should definitely go for the upgrade if you've got the money to do so.

I like your above water videos and can't wait to see the videos you make underwater with a decent camera too. :D

It's a really fast swimmer. So this snake isn't very dangerous, right?

Cool snake :))

Congratulations on all your success this year I am not fond of snakes in the water but more power to you.

Sry m9 too low quality for me.

Please continue!

This is awesome! Thanks for sharing! :D Also, I recently posted an article and used your slogan on it, the one about Steemit! I hope that's okay, I have tagged you as well @papa-pepper! Steem On! :)

That was still very good footage for a $30 camera. I'd be pretty happy with that for the price. Great post and good footage!

Jup, put that money that you made on this post to use and get that better camera!!

I got the distinct impression that the snake didn't like being followed... :-)

Great work @pap-pepper. ... following your work ardently !!

Cheers.I always enjoy your posts @papa-pepper !!!

Wow they swim fast! Btw love the underwater playground... looks like a lot of extra water fun!

I would surely like to see your new videos ..
