This is becoming a somewhat common thing, and I see a problem with it.

I'm not talking about including a video in a post that is relevant to what someone is writing. I'm talking about sharing a video that someone didn't make, like one would do on Fakebook, with no context whatsoever, or a one-line "funny video, lol" description.
In my opinion, it's not OK. Someone, or even a group of people, probably worked incredibly hard to create that piece of content, why should you be earning money for it? It's unscrupulous, and I'm not typically one to sit down and shut up when I see things like this.
I'm not going to call anyone out by name in this post, but may very well write one in the future talking about steemians who do it the most, or accounts that have been set up to do nothing but monetize stolen IP.
Steemit is a place to "reward original content creators". This is not Facebook. This is not Twitter. Steemit is better than this. Even if those videos do add some perceived value to the blockchain, is that how we want to build it? By stealing value from other platforms in an effort to make Steemit seem more like the rest of the internet?
How do you feel about videos being used to earn money by people who had nothing to do with their creation? Let me know in the comments!

I totally agree with you. It seems like the most untalented people succeed online while the creative and talented people continue to struggle. Reminds me of Highschool.
I couldn't agree more. I try to not even click on those and reward them with a view. I know the effort I put into my posts. It is disheartening to see someone else's hard work pilfered and posted without credits. No sir, I don't like it one bit.
Yeah, I hesitate to include videos in my posts and comments - the only reason I would do so is to enhance an article I wrote and give my readers more content. I typically don't upvote posts with only a picture or video and a couple sentences of writing.
If sharing a video helps to educate your readers on a topic, then by all means, people should go ahead and post it, but otherwise I would say to avoid them.
Absolutely. Including a video in a post to bring light or context to something one is writing about actually does add value, not only to the blockchain, but in my opinion, to the original content itself. Having people include a video in conversation is far better than simply sharing it for money.
I think there is some value in sharing a video to make people aware of it, especially if you write something to put it in context. A post with just a video has less value. There has to be something original in the post.
100% agreed. If someone thinks a video is so funny or interesting, it shouldn't be difficult to share one's thoughts on the video or it's subject.
People just think it's an easy way to make a buck. "If other people like the video, they'll pay me with an upvote"
One instance that comes to mind is a spam account (my opinion) who posted a copyrighted video clip as their introduction, and earned over $60.... That's just ridiculous, and the votes didn't just come from minnows and dolphins, which is the more disturbing part. There are whales out there essentially encouraging others to follow suit and make an account based on earning money for stolen IP...
Go check out the Bot-User @Steemcards. The creator made a bunch of cool cards you can call and have dropped in. I use the hashtag Spamcard A LOT. (I don't want that one dropping. But I'll call this one for a visit: #readit)
@steemcards seems to be an account that sells giftcards... What are you talking about calling up a card?
oops. I misstyped it. It's @Steemitcards....
I forgot the "It". (And it looks like the bot isn't responding....) https://steemit.com/steemit/@steemitcards/i-m-awake-use-me
check this one out...https://steemit.com/beast/@bestiary/bestary-and-natural-picture-giraffe
That's absurd... I've reported the account to @steemcleaners
It is a pixabay Giraffe.. That is it. 11 SBD earned. This is where we will always agree on abuse for sure.
Absolutely
100% agree. People shouldn't earn like they do sharing videos or memes they didn't create. I see memes all the time on here. Steemit is definitely a place for original content.
I would have to agree with you. It's not fair and I have seen lots of this going on. Steemit is for original content. To me, this is a form of plagiarism. But it seems to be tolerated for the moment. I try to avoid these posts and upvote those whose content is original.
just sticking the video in a post without adding any value to it is just out and out theft IMO. Write a post around the video, agree, disagree, add to the subject .. do something for pete sake if you want to get paid.
I share writings of Canadians that are now in the public domain. I format the writings so they present better on Steemit and add graphics to them. I don't just toss them up and expect people to click or even read them.
I agree! If someone can't comment on why they are sharing that video and why I should watch it and what value it has then it's not their work to earn money off!
I know people wanting to share truth and awareness will want the message spread, but there should still be some explanation about the video to at least show they have watched it, as well as why it is of value and importance.
