This "Little" game has every telltale sign of pandering to the gaming market by higher-ups at Warner Brothers, but after that first initial glance, this is game is quite amazing!
Bastion is a game that is rather simplistic in terms of mechanics; it has some ranged weapons, and some melee, you walk around with WASD, and you click on things in 2D. So what is so great about this game?
This game has right what other games seem to lack nowadays, and that is presentation. It is polished to a T. The isometric 2D view of the beautiful graphics greet you as you load in, and the silky smooth voice of the narrrator washes over your ears. The narrator is one of the stars of the show here; he tells you what is going on, and it oddly doesn't feel forced or gimmicky. In a rare case, this game pulls the narrator idea off, and really fricken well to boot.
The combat is clean, fast, and fun, the enemies varied enough where they are interesting, and challenges and unlockables give you a clear sense of progression while not hindering the game in any way. No stupid paid lootboxes, just cool stuff to unlock and new, simple builds to try out as a challenge.
The game has a surprisingly immersive story for being told by a narrator and it being so simple and all. Even though there never was much too it in terms of characters or blatant story, there is enough world-building that the ending may leave you a bit emotional, or almost reminiscent.
Replayability: Many people love to tout games for this, and in this case bastion has been designed to be very easily replayable, however I personally never replay games, so it doesn't really matter to me that much.
Overall it shorter, but not too short, polished, clean, pretty, fun, challenging, and a worthwhile experience for casuals or hardcore gamers alike.
Overall Bastion is definitely worth the buy, on sale or not. Keep an eye out for other games by the developer, as they have similar reputations.
