Sapa, Vietnam — The best trekking experience for backpackers

in #vietnam3 years ago (edited)

It was a spontaneous trip, I skipped 1 working-week off then we traveled to Sapa in 3 days 3 nights. It was crazy but worthy of a trip that I told my friend I will never forget just a thing, from the freaking hot days to the rainy days, from the foggy passes to the main road with the sunlight burnt me from head to toes. The first time ever in my life know what is sunburn.

The slope to our homestay, Ô Quy Ho Pass and Silver Waterfall

We came through countless slopes by an old Honda win and it was raining and crowded at the first time we went there. When we stopped at the middle of a slope and the traffic jam next to Sapa’s Post Office, I thought the brakes could be broken and we could die but it was magical that we’re still alive so I’m still here to write down how funny it was.

To be honest, it’s nothing to see at the center of Sapa. The first homestay that I and my friend stayed at is in Cát Cát Village, it’s so close to a touristic market where they sell souvenirs that you can buy in anywhere in Vietnam.

It was weird, I mean, the owner of the homestay. He didn't like me and Bertrand at all but I had no clue about it at the first glimpse until I figured it out, the landlord told us we must leave or I can tell that we’re expelled after just 1 night staying there by a stupid misunderstood. Anyway, we met new friends at that homestay and had such a nice trekking with them around Cat Cat Village and it’s still a good reason to run away from the touristic Sapa center.

We left Cát Cát Village in a rainy day to go to Tả Van, about 11km from Cát Cát.

The unknown stream

There are many things to do and see in Tả Van such as trekking, climbing, swimming in a big stream (if you can win the strong waves)…

I tried to find the stream by myself because I woke up and didn’t see my friend around. But it seem to be impossible in Sapa to go anywhere alone, the little scammers (sellers), they are in every corner. So I had to figure out how to get away from them while Bertrand was somewhere outside in the forest or the mountain. Then I realized I just can’t cut off those tails so I made them to be my amities, having ice-cream and snacks together instead of buying stuffs for them. They told me 21 is definitely old to be single and introduced me to a hot looking man who was 21 too and his family is so rich (as they said): they has a infinity rice field and his mom has her own grocery store. These two little girls even gave me some career advices.

Cầu Mây Waterfall is a must-go place. We had to pass a freaking big bamboo forest and muddy road to reach to the top of the waterfall. My flip flop just stick in the mud and I couldn’t move so the only one choice was taking it off and walking on my bare foots.

Sorry I forgot to take a picture of the waterfall, but this is what you’ll see from its top.

We left after 2 days 2 nights in Tả Van. It was rad.
We’re on the way to Mu Cang Chai.
