Vikings TV show

I do not know how many of you have already enjoyed this television program, originally broadcast by The History Channel since 2013. I must say, that I know the existence of this series since the first episode was broadcast in its premiere year, nevertheless, it did not catch my attention at that moment, since I was still delighted by what Breaking Bad had to offer me as a spectator.

However, I have seen as colleagues have recommended the series and the growing popularity rise that has had since its first chapter, and as I generally hope that the television series are completed or very advanced to begin to see them, as I did with Breaking Bad, Games of Throne, The Sopranos, Rome, and many others, this because I hate to be left waiting for a new chapter for a whole year, so I decided to start watching Vikings, as it has a repertoire to date of 59 episodes distributed in 5 seasons.

So far I've only seen the first season of this series, and it has left me very satisfied. The series portrays in a convincing way the lifestyle of the Vikings, their culture, their religion, all their beliefs, the role of men and women in their model of society, the importance of the family, their form of government and as all these things make contrast with the Christian societies like England and France. All this accompanied by the magnificent natural landscapes that are displayed on the screen.

The performances are very good, and the direction too, which is perfect when it comes to showing the sacrifices they make to the gods, or the incredible battles between different factions and societies.

Its main character is the legendary Ragnar Lodbrok, played by Travis Fimmel, however, has other great performances such as Katheryn Winnick, Clive Standen and Gustaf Skarsgård, just to name a few.

Something that I liked this first season is the contrast between the different religions and the different gods, besides being able to learn something about the Viking culture and beliefs. In the same way, you can get to appreciate the brutality of the time, how to deal with death and battles was constant for them. In one way or another, you end up taking empathy from the group of Vikings that is responsible for assaulting the islands and Christian villages, and not precisely because they carry out these acts, but because they show their most human face, which allows you to understand the objectives that they were chasing.

I am going to annex the trailer for the first season for those who have some free time and may be interested in taking a look at the series.

Sort:

I've watched the whole thing from the beginning.

I think it far superior to GOT, imo.

(I prefer historical to fantasy though).

Viking is the only thing I have really followed on tv in the last few years, tbh.

Personally I also prefer the story to the fantasy, in fact, I started to see GOT because they recommended it seriously, and yes I liked it, however, I'm starting to like Vikings too and I've only seen the first season, I have to keep moving forward in the plot, things will probably start to get much better from now on.

I have really enjoyed this series as well. Gives a decent view into the what the warrior culture is like. The rage and brutality in their fights is awe inspiring, makes me miss the Corps. GoT has got some good story lines as well but if you are looking for something that is more based in reality this is definitely the show to watch. Til Valhalla!

Yes, I have started watching the series while I wait for the eighth season of GOT, however, I have already begun to see the second season, and I'm really enjoying it.

What a great show... you're in store for a nice treat with this one

Yes, I just finished watching the second season and it's very good.
