Wow! Amazing. I lived in Almaty for nearly two years and never went to the lake. Looks like that was an oversight on my part. I did go to Charyn Canyon and an observatory in the mountains that might have been near the lake. I did a post about it a while back... in fact it might have been with Steempress. Hang on...
Yeah, it was Steempress, but looks like Flickr has messed up the images. I'm gonna have to fix that. D'oh!

I went from Bishkek to Almaty, it was like coming from Old Soviet Union days back to modern age lol. Sorry Bishkek, I did love it a lot too.
