One of @cryptographic's posts gave me an idea. In this comment, he basically said that he likes to reward quality comments with a 100% upvote. Naturally, this limits the number of comments he can make throughout the course of the day to still retain his voting power. Hence, we have an individual who does not pass out a ton of votes yet those he does, carry significant value.
Contrast that with my approach. Throughout the day, I give out a large number of votes. Of course, I do this at far less than 100% since I, too, am limited to 20% power in 24 hours. My votes, individually speaking, carry a lot less impact yet more people get them. I stated in a comment that one difference is that I might give someone 8 or 9 votes in one day.
So which is better? What do you prefer?

In looking at the whales, it seems they operate in a similar fashion. Some have very little voting power while others are very particular about who they vote for. On occasion, I received a few votes from whales that were worth $20. Those are very nice to get. Obviously, this person was very selective where he or she gave out the votes. At the same time, there are many with high SP who upvote my content. Yet their voting power is at 10% or 20%. What is interesting is there is a split among those people. Some are giving votes at 100% while others at a much reduced rate.
So how do you approach it? The site needs voting since that is tied to the compensation. Upvotes were a central premise in the creation of this blockchain. Nevertheless, the only guideline was to upvote quality content.
It will be interesting to see what people comment about and their views on this. Personally, I have not seen this topic covered in such a way.
If you feel this article is of benefit, please give it an upvote and re-steem. It would be nice to get a huge number of comments going to give people all views on this.

Pictures by google images.
I think save the votes for the people who offer the most value in their comments. Spreading the love around is great but I i think its better to see a good bit of content rewarded rather than a "lol" comment.
Very true....I agree with that completely.
The LOL and the thanks great post dont add a lot.
But what about the quality content, whether in posts are comments, that is out there. There is a level that is far above LOL that is quality and one could say is deserving of an upvote.
That is the dilemma...lots of quality content, limited voting power.
Perhaps I should have mentioned trying to balance in the article.
Mostly I'm voting with my 100% power on any articles I read and think is good. I like to give the proper support with what I can. Anyways I'm not reading 10 or 20 articles a day, mostly between 3-5. Leaving me with plenty voting power for comments as well. On my Own posts I like to also give 60-100% voting power to those that contribute with quality comments. But of course I cannot keep that up if my followers base grows.
I see reason why whales don't use 100% simply because they have more value to their votes and even 5% is quite a powerful vote for some of them. If I had that much steem power i guess I would be going with that strategy as well but also reward specific outstanding posts with a big fat vote.
I lean towards quality but only rarely vote at 100% for a comment. But will do 100% for a post. Overall, I favor spreading the wealth around, rather than concentrating on just a few Steemians.
well recently i've been delegated a bunch of steem power so i'm trying to do a spread across the board, my first take is i do 100% on stuff i really like, then drop down to a custom between 20 and 100% and then 20% and 10% blocks throughout the day, i'm trying to upvote and comment and find good stuff each day when i have time. i've got a bit of flu at the moment so yeah i'm struggling a bit.
I am still with not enough sp that I can choose in how much voting power I give. But if I would have the choice, I would give decent upvotes to comments but like 20%. Good blogs I would give 100% upvote.
True, a decent upvote can make a difference. I also think its a good thing to upvote comments, also a form of decency. I always do it least, but then again..its just a 5 cent upvote
Intresting post espcially im new to steemit. Well done@taskmaster4450 Upvoted and resteemed. Hope it will benefits other steemers.
It depends
If you want a huge number of follower then upvote more posts with a little bit of your voting power.
If you are not wanting that and only upvote the content that you like then going though a higher voting power is good.
Overall I prefer to vote using high power.
(I can't choose my voting strength, I am suggesting for those who can)
On the eSteem app and on busy.org you should be able to use the vote slider. Good luck!
Let me try my friend !
I'm not yet at the level of being able to scale my votes, but I think if you're voting on quality content that you can see someone went to effort with, then a higher vote level provides incentive and reward for effort.
Well, since I am a designer I focus my 100% upvotes on design, art and illustration posts; sometimes other time of content. Also most of the comments I receive are short but meaningfull so I give a max of 10% mostly.
For introduceyourself posts it give even 1 to 10% to upvote a lot.
With this price of Steem all our upvotes are almost double value! I hope it doesn't crash too much in january.
And no matter my VP if I see a high quality post I upvote at 100%
Personally I consider that the votes should be done based on the perceived value. A post with great deal of valuable content deserves a 100% upvote. Good but not great posts should be given smaller upvotes. You could set a tiny percentage for smaller comments that deserve a little pat on the back.
Like a portfolio you should balance it with a good mix. Each will have their own style.
You may find it interesting.Coincidently yesterday I wrote about something I've noted about upvoting here: https://steemit.com/steemit/@vimukthi/interesting-observations-about-loyalties-on-steemit
Thanks for the link @vimukthi.
I will give it a read.
For posts I prefer to use a few more votes than just 10*100%. I try to vote at 25% or more to so that the vote is worth something, and frankly so that it doesn't get lost and so the author will see it if they look. But then I do vote at 100% for articles that I think are really good, and sometimes for people whom I think really deserve it
For comments on my own posts I tend to upvote in the 5-15% range depending on the thought/effort that seems to have gone into it. with 0% for spam obviously
Cheers
From a content creator point of view I believe it's much better to get regular small upvotes compared to having to hope for the occasional big whale vote.
From a voter point of view I also like to share regular smaller upvotes to keep my voting power at 80%+. I don't mind draining more of my voting power when I come across something I really like or if it's to welcome a new member to Steemit.
Overall I agree with you. I prefer a larger following of even smaller voters because, since I upvote people who comment on my articles, their VP will increase over time.
This is a good discussion. Well right now at this point I would be happy by getting any upvotes. Lol but i think obviously the more the merrier. And if You have a good SP and You can get out there helping more people thats what you should do. But also be wise to what content we are upvoting.
I will always go for quality because a commentor that drop quality comment shows that such person really took time to go through such post thereby deserve to be rewarded
taskmaster
Since you have asked. Here is my approach to this upvote decision we all make.
I try to upvote everyone who replies and makes a comment on my blog,
Rewarding them and myself for their time and effort.
Here is what I think. We are all different. My thinking and writing skills may not be as commanding and attention grabbing as others.
But, my heart and intention is to do well for Steemit and for you.
That is my take for everyone. We all are different.
I don't want to leave anyone behind. Everyone has something to offer.
Francis
I agree with upvoting all who comment on your post...it is a reward for them taking the time to write something....I do the say.
And if you follow it around, you upvoting your commenters, given enough time, will increase their SP which translates to higher VP which they give to you.
Everyone wins.
I am still trying to figure out my voting power and how it works. I generally vote 100% nc i like giving people things bc it feels good when i receive things......I also want tomake sure i am bringing value to the community and not being carefree with the power we have.....I really love the spirit of the people within this community and look forward to the revolution.....upvoted 100%, blessings, and much love💓
i prefer quality because only deserving commentor will get reward,,,
Quality Wins!! Everyone should eat in this garden from everyone showing love.
We should not be selfish, but if I have 100 people I support, I can not give everyone 100% of my voting power. For those who do not have strong voting power, this is a problem.
No you cant support 100 people at 100%. Are those people better served getting minimal votes individually from you or would it be better if that was cut to 20 of the top people and each getting 5 x what is given now?
Interesting perspective. At present I am like you...upvoting a lot.
We have a long-range ray, when we help new people, they continue to work on Steemit. Some of them invest, this brings a new growth to Steem and SBD. We depend on the number of users and investments. It's also great to choose to vote for strong bloggers, they can give us more money, with that we grow faster on the success scale. The combination of two methods is the best
Whatever floats your boat, it's your SP after all. But I think you'll keep more people happy with multiple votes :-)
Ya its depend on ranking and s.p power for comments and upvotes.
Good point!
I think its best to do many smaller UV at a lower percentage.. most of the people that comment have less than 1KSP... so .06 or .12 helps them out.. inspires them them to keep commenting.. continual commenting leads to conversation.. conversation leads to relationships among people... relationships among people lead to communities.. and isn't that what were trying to promote here?
Valid point @davedickeyyall.
We are here to motivate as many people as possible. And you could be right...giving a lot of newer people 6 cents votes is better than giving one a 60 cent vote.
That's why I always UV comments on my posts.. people will keep coming back.. maybe if its a exceptionally good comment I'll UV at a higher percentage
Daily Learn some new from your post. Love to read it.
I am glad you find it helpful and educational.
Fabulous one!!!

My name is Natalia and I’m a community manager of the TravelChain project.
Our team really like your blog about crypto, blockchain, money, new technologies and your opinions about that. I really admire all the efforts you put into making such an amazing and unique content! I would be happy if we could work together.
In addition, if you will be interested in our project, I would like to talk about cooperation in our bounty campaign (of course, with reward).
I hope to hear back from you soon! The thing is, right now I'm looking for enthusiasts who will share the same interest in blockchain startups as we do. We're creating our decentralized travel database on our OWN BLOCKCHAIN. There are a lot of things I can tell you about our project, team and what we’ve already achieved.
