From VR to the ER

in #vr4 years ago

With Hivefest coming up and a lot of peeps out there purchasing their first VR headsets I figured I'd share some clips from a funny subreddit I stumbled on recently with the genius name "VRtoER".

To make it easier to view these clips as Reddit has their own storage now meaning you literally can't link or embed these videos without sending readers to the post which also loads all the comments, etc, I decided to just re-upload them to youtube and link to the Reddit sources and give them credit. I don't have ads up on my youtube or am affiliated with them - any ads you may see are youtube's meaning I don't profit off of the youtube views I may get from this, this is only done for convenience sake.

Immersion seems to be a big thing with VR, naturally you'd think that by giving up your sense of sight you still remember where your physical body is for longer than a couple minutes, or those shown in these clips would at least use their sense of hearing to keep them "down to earth" so to say - but for many of them this seems like an impossible task. I've been thinking about what causes this, I know some people are very good at getting immersed in movies, games and other entertainment that they hate it when others around them talk or disturb them because it breaks the immersion, but I really wonder if it's that alone or if it's people who aren't as technology savvy or used to gaming, etc, that may fall victim to the immersion shock of VR way harder than others who play games on a daily basis. Here are some of the videos that stood out that I wanted to include in this post. Learn from them before you break your neck at Hivefest!

Alright, starting off, maybe don't tell someone trying VR for the first time to "jump":

This leap of faith jumping seems to be popular in this plank on a skyskraper VR simulation as we see in this next video:

This one seemed a bit more of a mild jump but the repercussions seem just as bad:

For this next one I don't even know what VR game she's playing but it must definitely be a good one for you to completely forget that you're not in a football field and have room to run around in:

Talking about Football, this guy forgot he's not playing Highschool Football right now:

Now on to the most extreme jump I've seen so far, imagine how immersed you must be to just go full out like this guy does, the sense of freedom must've been intense until...:

There was one video that made it also clear that having kids around as you're VR'ing is not that safe, I decided not to include it due to the unknown damage caused but here's another one playing with fire. So make sure you don't have unaware children around you because your senses in VR are going to be just as handicapped as their unawareness:

This was a bit different and more fun for the people around you during VR, reminding you that not only are you unaware of the dimensions in the room you're in but also of what you may be reaching to for comfort or how you're reaching for it:

Okay, to end it I decided to include this one, it is obviously staged but at this point if you place the VR in the wrong hands (head) it wouldn't surprise me if this is going to happen sooner or later:

Alright so, remember to stay safe when VR'ing so you don't end up in the ER and especially during HiveFest watch where you're walking in the real world!

Havent had this big of a laugh in a while :D thanks for sharing.

A pretty funny compilation. Won't be long before we have full sized holodecks like on star trek.

The question is, will you be there? This may be the only chance where you can be at HiveFest anon 🙃

Yeah, signed up already. :3

I love VR! How I heard of HIVE

Cool! How did that happen? :D

I used Altspace VR on my Oculus Quest 2 (recommend it) then I dropped in to a world where HIVE gave a presentation. Then not to long after I meet a guy who hangs out here on Burning Man in AltspaceVR, so I signed up!

Nice man! I was on Altspace too but was already here on HIVE. Probably saw ya!

Cool! Yeah, I think this i a nice merge!!

That's really cool! Welcome! :D

Awesome :) Welcome to HIVE!

Thanks!! Meet you in VR!!

Ahhh lordy. These are fckn hilarious. Especially that one with the woman unsuspectingly hugging and petting the wrong end of her dog 😂

Hivefest won't know what has hit it with all VR blunders. It will add an extra element of spice to the proceedings... and plenty of smashed flat screens.

Haha! Funny videos! xD..Thanks for sharing!

I have never tried VR before but seeing this videos, lol it was really funny and educating. Thanks for the heads up

Missing the Fantasy Premier League, xD

How are you Acidyo? ^^

Hey, check out rabona.io instead of the fantasy league. ;)

Doing okay, trying to get out of the red financially. How are you? What you been up to lately?

Glad to see you are healthy.
Now Im trying new things in the village. And sometimes enjoy nature.

LOL ok you've just put me off getting a VR headset! Although that kid video half way through had some ninja skills, just needs to get some thug life music and animations to that one and it would be complete!

Really funny compilation. "what's updog" cracked me up really hard. 🤣😂

Hilarious! :D

Hahahha this was hilarious to watch, I remember trying VR at a friend some time ago, it was..... So thrilling, so awesome, my head hurt hahha. Funny thing how the real world, with concrete walls and just a room seems so boring after "being" in the virtual colorful world. I can see people in the future saying " neahhh, I skip real world today, VR is way more fun lol". Quite dangerous 😂
