1. There are 54 countries in Africa.
There are 54 officially recognized countries in Africa by the United Nations (UN). Click HERE to check out the official list of all 54 African countries in an alphabetical order. Keep in mind that the list excludes two states in Africa who their independence is still being disputed. The two states are; Western Sahara and Somaliland.
2. Africa’s Sahara is the World’s Largest Desert.
The Sahara Desert located at the Northern part of Nigeria prides as the largest non-polar desert in the whole wide world, with a surface area of 9 million square kilometres, that is, 3.5 million square miles. The two largest polar deserts in the world are Antarctica and Arctic Desert with 14,000,000 & 13,985,000 sq km respectively.
3. Africa's Nile is the World Largest River.
The River Nile which rises south of the Equator and flows northward through northeastern Africa into the Mediterranean Sea prides as the longest river in the world. The River Nile measures about 6,670 km (4,160 miles) in length. The second longest river is the Amazon River measuring about 6,400 km (3,976 miles) in length.
4. Africa is Home To The Largest Known Mammal.
The largest known living mammal in thr world is the African Elephant. The African Elephant can weigh between 6 - 7 tons and are found in Eastern, Southern and West Africa. A newborn elephant normally weighs between 200 to 268 pounds (90-121 kg) compared to a newborn baby which weighs just about 5 pounds.
5. Africa is Home to many Natural Wonders.
When you talk about wonders of the world, the continent Africa can never be left out because of all the amazing natural wonders it houses. A few of these wonders includes;

- Ngorongoro Crater {pictures}
- Serengeti Migration {pictures}
- Avenue of the Baobabs {pictures}
Other wonders you probably know already includes; The Victoria Falls, Mount Kilimanjaro etc.
Excellent post about africa. I want to make a correction that is Nile is the longest river(by length). Amazon is the largest river(by volume)
