Instructions
1. Prepare the Dough
o In a small bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water. Sprinkle active dry yeast over the top and let it sit for 10 minutes until frothy.
o In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt.
o Add the yeast mixture, warm milk, yogurt, and 1 tablespoon of melted butter to the flour mixture.
o Mix until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
o Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
2. Prepare the Filling
o In a small bowl, combine minced garlic with the remaining 1 tablespoon of melted butter. Set aside.
3. Shape and Fill the Naan
o Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 6 equal portions.
o Roll each portion into a ball.
o On a lightly floured surface, roll out each ball into a 6-inch circle.
o Place about 2 tablespoons of shredded mozzarella cheese in the center of each circle.
o Fold the edges over the cheese to encase it, pinching to seal.
o Gently flatten and roll out each filled dough ball into a 6-inch oval.
4. Cook the Naan
o Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
o Place one rolled-out dough on the hot skillet.
o Cook for 1–2 minutes until bubbles form on the surface and the bottom has golden brown spots.
o Flip and cook the other side for another 1–2 minutes.
o Remove from the skillet and immediately brush with the garlic butter mixture.
o Repeat with the remaining dough.
5. Serve
o Garnish the cooked naan with chopped fresh cilantro.
o Serve warm alongside your favorite curry or enjoy on its own.
Cooking and Serving Tips
• Resting the Dough: Allowing the dough to rise properly ensures a soft and fluffy naan.
• Cheese Variations: While mozzarella is commonly used, feel free to experiment with other cheeses like cheddar or paneer for different flavors.
• Serving Suggestions: Garlic & Cheese Naan pairs well with dishes like butter chicken, tikka masala, or can be enjoyed as a snack with chutney.
• Storage: Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in a skillet or microwave before serving.
