The Black Sun If Ra is the Light Sun, Osiris is the Black Sun. Ra is the Day Sun and Osiris the Night Sun. Stories always contain ambiguity. If Ra "dies" each night and enters the Underworld, how should that story best be told? Is his light extinguished? Does he become the unlit sun, the extinguished sun? Does he need to be rekindled, re-lit? Or do people imagine a blazing sun traveling through the Underworld, illuminating every dark corner and infuriating the dark denizens
It's hard to image a bright, active sun traveling through the Underworld. If such a thing happened, the Underworld would cease to be the dark underworld and would just be another version of the lit world, but underground. We must imagine the sun as black, or reduced to a minimal glow
