Don't know what it is about walking but since I've started doing it on a daily basis I've been feeling so much better. I feel better physically and mentally I feel much sharper. My vision is much clearer and I sleep so much better at night.
Initially I didn't want to do it, because I didn't feel like doing it. I forced myself though and for the first few days it was straight pain and struggling to breathe. The first day I could only manage to do one mile. I walked a half mile out and then turned around and came back home. It felt like pure torture. I had to do that for a few days until my body caught up with my mind.
After about the 6th or 7th day I was able to do a full mile without too much of a problem. Now I'm pushing myself to do at least 2 miles a day at the minimum. Its a challenge but as I start to make a habit of walking every day I'm starting to learn that every few days I need to push myself a little further. Walking a mile now seems like child's play to me and I hope to be up to five miles per day soon.
My main goal in making walking a habit is to lose weight and get myself into better health, so along with the walking, I have given up junk food and soda (how I love soda) and it seems to be working wonders. I'm a big dude at 5'11" and 305 but I've lost about 6lbs and now I'm down to 299. I know that may seem a little excessive but one thing that I have learned over the years is that obese people lose weight very fast in the beginning.
Anyway I thought I'd share my experiences with walking as a means of losing weight and getting healty. There really are a lot of benefits that I am experiencing first hand!
