~ 35 ~ Walk With Our Family in Nova Scotia, Canada

in #walkwithme7 years ago (edited)

What Better Way To Ease A Full Stomach...

Than a walk to Wayside campground? The whole Bowes family got out last night after dinner and made the trek up the highway for a stretch and some fun at their little playground.

It never takes the boys ( @hendrix22 included) long to start some kind of competition. This is the "see who can hold on the longest" contest. Dad was the last one hanging, but before you think, hey that's not fair, we must keep in mind that @eddiebowes can do more push ups than Dad now...(I wonder if I'll get in trouble for spilling that?) AHHAAHA! Too late and I'm not deleting it.

Dad fell and it literally shook the ground and then we were all shaking too cause we were laughing so hard :) :) :)

And Then I Noticed The Strangest Thing

You probably know what these are, but I have never seen them until last night...

IMG_0912.JPG

They looked like little bluish white lights floating through the air...

IMG_0919.JPG

It turns out they are these little flies with what looks like feathers on their behinds!

The Way Home

After catching 'fairy flies' for a while we realized we better get back home soon, no one wants to be walking on the highway in the dark that's for sure, even though now that tourist season is over there's hardly any traffic, it's always better to be on the safe side.

Another great walk babe. Good to see the whole Bowes clan out with ya.
That was one weird fly? Did you find out what it was? 😉

Yes TP! @pennsif answered, it's a "Wooly Aphid" eww....stay away from the remains of my gardens please! AHAHAHA!!

Great to see you and the family outside being active! Thanks for taking us along for the walk :)

Thank you for all the support and kindness @goldenarms! :) xo!

Oh pishaw. You have a great blog so it's easy. Check my last post and get in on the contest yo! It's just a lil one but it's my first..cheers

Sure thing I'll head right over!

You have an active family who seem to love the beautiful nature you are surrounded by.Lovely photos @lyndsaybowes.

Its healthy to have some father-son rivalry :)
I'm pretty sure my 16 month old boy could do more push-ups than me now B)

Loving the fairy flies too, I have never seen these before, thanks for sharing.

Bless.

Thanks so much Mark, that's too funny about your baby!! He must be a tank! :) :) :)

It's good to see father and son competition. Reminds me of times when my dad would race us kids in my grandma's field and win.

Also I like the big rock with the crack in it. I wonder how that happened.

My guess would be the ice and snow we get, freezing and melting all winter, the water slowly seeps into small cracks expands and over time cracks them?

Yes, that sounds like what happened and makes the most sense.

The first thing in my mind was that maybe an ancient Viking warrior was angry at something and took his larger than life hammer and struck the rock that could not withstand such a powerful blow.

I like your explanation better David!

Good walks, good nature, good activity, good family.

Trying to find those little fairy flies. I think they might be one of the wolly aphid family but not certain.

AHHH that's it, it's gotta be, by the description of people saying it had a blue glow to it, and the wings look the same as the photos when I zoom in!! Noooo!! Not aphids!!!!!! Whyyyyyyyy????!!!!!

I liked it better when they were Fairies!! Aphids ... ewww hahahahhaa!!

Looks like lots of family fun and exercise too! Love the photos, especially the fairy flies! Glad you got home safely before dark. Thanks for taking us along...

Thank you for enjoying the photos Ceci! I hope you all are having some better weather!

Rain is slowing down, so hopefully, that means our summer is coming...

Rain rain go away! :) :)

That contest looks fun. Yout pictures are amazing quality it looks professional. I like that part of the blue fly. Ive never seen thoses before or heard of them so its nice to learn new things. Nice post

Thanks for the kind compliments @joordanzzz! I just learned that the fly is a Wooly Aphid....eww...

Beautiful as always! And you are never too old to play on a playground! 😀
I honestly don't think I have ever seen feather-butt flies before! I thought at first they were going to be fireflies. We had those in Jersey, but they don't exist in Colorado!

Aww, I though for sure my encyclopedia Wren would have known what they were! :) :) I love fireflies, didn't see many of em this year...

Hahaha, good to know I'm an encyclopedia! 😁 But alas, not about bugs.

:) :) It is looking like it's a wooly aphid... c/o @pennsif eek!

Great post mom! Lots of good pictures!!!

Thanks Eddie!

Terrific album showcasing quality family time! @lyndsaybowes Upvoted

Thank you NinaHaskin!

I can do 1.5 push ups! Training for 2!

AHHAHA that's awesome!! I'm still working on 1...

Hahahaha

I was gonna say - you guys must eat early. The days are getting short pretty quick.

Such fine adventures you all have!

Oooh yes, we had to eat at 4 that night! It's almost time for Hibernation!! :) :) Do you hibernate in the winter too Winston?

Yes - piling on the blankets is cheaper than turning up the heat!

Glad to see the boys competing.. @eddiebowes will be winning that contest soon...

I've meet heard of a fairy fly...? Did y'all get fire flies... aka lightening bugs up there?

It looks like y'all had a great time. Spending time together as a family is important. Great post as usual.

We do get fire flies! First time I've ever lived in a place that had em was here in NS. So I guess you can't answer what the fairy fly is then eh? How's Alaska doing?

No I can't answer any questions about fairy flies.. you're the expert there...

As far as Alaska.. here's the current debate in the house
