This is a walk not just in the room but also in time. Starting at what once was the factory buildings at Kockums, a company that started out as a mechanical workshop in 1840. The company grew and was active in many areas. In the beginning of the 20:th century the ship building era in Malmö took off.
Kockums built both military and commercial ships. The pointed building is a shelter from WWII.
In a few years in the 1950-ies, Kockums was the biggest ship wharf in the world. And also an important employer in the city of Malmö.
There are no ships built anymore in Malmö. The factory buildings are partly demolished and partly taken over by other companies. Swedish television is one of them.
The bridge has an impressive counter weight! When you get across the bridge you walk into the "new" Malmö.
Here you find yourself in an area with a lot of optimism towards the future. Several business incubators can be found here as well as conference venues and hotels. And also the newly founded university of Malmö. The building with the green glass facade is housing the university library. This building is spectacular in sunshine, the glass shifts colours depending on the light.
Now we are getting closer to the central city. In the last decade this part of the harbour area has been transfered into a place where you go to take a walk or just hang out. In the summer you buy your take away coffee or food and enjoy it by the water.
Just outside the central station is a very green building!
Inside the main hall at the central station. This is one of my favourite places in the city. There is a special feeling at big train stations. People leaving and coming home, ends and beginnings.
In the old part of the station you can sit down and eat or just relax waiting for your train.
Felt I had to end this walk with me with a picture of the trains! Thanx for the company and have a pleasant journey!
Very beautiful photos, you have a good eye and a skill to capture and frame the object.
I peculiarly like this one:
