Here's a few ways you can improve your credit score :
- Get your credit reports:
*If you've just been declined for credit you can request your reports for FREE.In the U.S., there are three national credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion).
While most of the information collected by the three credit bureaus are similar, there are differences. For example, one credit bureau may have unique information captured on you that is not being captured by the other two, or the same data element may be stored or displayed differently by the credit bureaus. Bottom line order all three!
Confirm everything on your report for accuracy and for any errors.
If you find any errors on your credit report YOU CAN dispute it. Each agency has a form that you can complete to do this. Also there's a website to dispute any negative credit reporting (cfpg.gov).
Review your credit card utilization ratio. A good rule of thumb is to keep your balances below 30% of your limit. If you lower your balances below 30% of course 10% would be better.your utilization rating would move up your credit score quickly. Example: you have a credit limit of $1000.00. Keeping your balances under $300.00 each month is very healthy for your credit score.
If you have any negative marks: collections, judgments and etc, check to see if it's worth disputing or negotiating something that you can afford. Derogatory or negative marks generally stay on your report for 7-10 years, so it pays to address them if you have them.
