The Warsaw Uprising was a major World War II operation. The Uprising was fought for 63 days with little outside support. It was the single largest military effort taken by any European resistance movement during World War II. The Uprising began on 1 August 1944
The main Polish objectives were to drive the Germans out of Warsaw while helping the Allies defeat Germany. An additional, political goal of the Polish Underground State was to liberate Poland's capital and assert Polish sovereignty. Initially the Poles established control over most of central Warsaw, but not for long, the Soviets tactically stopped their troops on the edge of the river.
After some time, Józef Stalin sent only 1,200 soldiers who crossed the ranks, there was no air support from the Soviets, only the discharges that most of the Germans took over.
Poles in the Warsaw Uprising did not give up, they knew they were losing in all possible options, lack of ammunition, places to dress, numbers and many other things, but they had one faith in Poland, they did not take this faith until the end even when they knew that they already have no honor for their homeland, family, companions and for all Poles who now live and live. People who fought then are heroes, all without exception gave their lives for freedom and that Poles will always defend their homeland only they had the courage to put their strength and stir up in the whole war thanks to him we are Poles who we are worth remembering about.
The exact numbers of losses of the insurgent army and the population of Warsaw are not known, they can only be described in great approximation. The largest losses were suffered by the civilian population, as German troops planned to murder entire districts, for example, in the Wola district of Warsaw, over 65,000 murdered in this way. defenseless people (slaughter in Wola), not in the area of insurgent fights, and in Ochota about 10,000 people (Ochota slaughter). In addition, mass murders, especially in the first days of August 1944, occurred in the city center, where up to 10,000 people could have been killed. people (executions in the "police district" and executions in the area of Teatralny Square), as well as in Mokotów (pacification of Mokotów) and the Old Town.
The proximity of the bilateral battle stations, continuous German attacks with the use of aviation and the high-caliber guns also meant that the German heavy fire centers hurt not only the fighting insurgents, but also the defenseless population. After the war, it was generally accepted that the total loss of those killed in the Warsaw Uprising amounted to about 200,000 people, and that the findings of the civilian uprisings of 120-150,000 were revised today. people, although numbers in the range of 150-180 thousand are often adopted This number also includes the most valuable and active youth of the capital, which was at the forefront of the Polish resistance movement. Also many representatives of Polish cultural life were killed, such as Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński. Most of the victims were buried in mass graves at the Warsaw Uprising Cemetery in Warsaw's Wola district and at Powązki Cemetery.
It is estimated that during and after the end of the uprising, the Germans expelled from 500 to 550 thousand inhabitants of Warsaw and about 100,000 people from towns near Warsaw. About 90,000 Poles were sent to forced labor deep into the Reich, 60,000 sent to concentration camps, and about 100,000 dismissed or taken out of transit camps under various pretexts. The rest, that is 300- 350 thousand. people, they were transported all over the General Governorship (most to the western part of the Warsaw District, then to Radom and Krakow) leaving them there without any means of livelihood.
Destroyed Warsaw
