Director of the small arms and ammunition division of Israel Shmilovitz said that the new bullet was developed in response to the demands of many soldiers and security forces around the world seeking uniform ammunition types they use, without sacrificing performance, such as the ability to penetrate armor.
Prior to penetrating the armor was possible only with 7.62 millimeter bullets adapted to automatic weapon fire.
With the new bullet the combat army could improve its ability, while increasing the firepower equivalent of the FN MAG machine gun and reducing the weight of equipment needed to carry it on the battlefield.
From a series of trials it was revealed that the bullet was 30% more accurate than the 7.62 millimeter ammunition with a range of up to 550 meters, and had a greater penetration ability at distances up to 800 meters. At that distance the bullet can penetrate the steel plate as thick as 3.4 millimeters.

This opens up a lot of options for service men and women. I would still rather 7.62 if I had the choice though, I love that round!
