It is often said that the history of the Warhammer 40 000 universe is larger than the histories of many countries in the world. That is not an exaggeration. It started thirty years ago and has more book series, video games, table top games and much more that I could make an entire series of posts describing just those series. And I might do just that one day!
Right now I would like to talk about one of the most important characters in the entire setting. If not the most important character. A character is simply known as the God Emperor of Mankind.
Almost everything about him is unknown. Nobody knows his actual age, but there are speculations and theories. His name is also unknown, he is referred just as the Emperor. Despite his images everywhere, it is unknown what he actually looks like. There are some theories that he might not even be Human. While a lot about him is not known, what is known is what he did in the last 12 000 years.
At one point humanity had a civilization that colonized the galaxy. It was so advanced that it had no competition other than the third most powerful faction in the Warhammer 40 000 history. This civilization lasted for more than 15 000 years. After certain events, it fell apart and humanity was left stranded. Traveling between star systems became very difficult.
During this chaos, the Emperor came back to Earth, now known as Terra and started the Unification Wars. He planned to conquer Terra and reclaim the galaxy for the humanity. To win Unification Wars he made genetically improved soldiers called the Thunder Warriors. They were large and very powerful but prone to fits of rage. They were warriors first, soldiers second. The war was not long and soon the Emperor had Terra in his hands. The second step was to contact and form an alliance with the Mechanicum of Mars.
This was the 31st millennium and Mars is a planet-wide factory. The Emperor needed it for his plans. He needed it to start the Great Crusade, to liberate, conquer, or rediscover all of the Human planets and kill or chase away the aliens who have taken over many Human worlds. To do this he needed new soldiers and generals who would lead them. For this reason, he created the Primachs as his sons and using their DNA created the Legio Astartes, the Space Marines.

You can write 40,000 post about Warhammer 40k and still not covered enough of it. If you're making a series it gonna be looooong.
Much longer than most people realize. I have enough for several years of constant updates, so I agree with you, it's going to be a long series and I'll try to write as much as I can.

There are never enough Fascist Space Popes!
Hehe, I wouldn't really call him a pope, fascist maybe. He wanted to abolish all of the religion in the galaxy. It may not be well known, but the Imperium is based a lot on the Soviet Union, not as much on same nazi or fascist countries :)
It's something I must have started saying when I was 15 with friends who played 40k. I haven't read the lore in maybe 20 years -- really, I think I just needed an outlet to write the words: fascist space pope. Awesome stuff though, and thanks for the update!
