The flag of Cuba is the only one in the world that combines three specific elements:
- A red equilateral triangle on the side of the mast, symbol of equality, blood shed for independence and the revolutionary struggle.
- A white five-pointed star inside the triangle, representing absolute freedom and unity of the Cuban people.
- **Five alternating horizontal stripes (three blue and two white), the blue ones symbolizing the three original departments of the island during the Spanish colonization, and the white ones the purity of ideals.
No other national flag has this exact combination of geometric elements, colors and symbolism.
