It is not a rumor. Points were used to place posts into a que where they were reviewed for curation. Now Ecency curators will give out votes without needing to use Points. You will still receive Ecency votes, only the method will change.
There will be new uses announced soon for using Points. Ecency is growing bigger and better!

Ouch, it means soon we can't use points to upvote our posts anymore? Ecency doesn't always upvote posts (I rarely get any even if I've been using this mainly for a long time), other curators are biased or prefer to upvote newbies for retention and now upvoting via ecency points will be taken away too? 😥
I only hope the new uses will be much better then. Still this is sad to hear.
