Eating at a Greek taverna on Momevasia I ordered sardines and when my dinner arrived so did the cats! Immediately a waiter appeared with a long cardboard tube, the kind wrapping paper comes on, and started whapping our table and the bushes beside it. Amidst all the drama the cats did disappear!
That was my first cat encounter. I was in Greece for a month and soon came to expect them everywhere.

There was one at the hotel. It always showed up for breakfast. It would let you stroke its head but would sometimes turn on you for no reason. Thank the Pond Gods I've got quick reflexes, or it might have been a trip to the doctor for a tetanus and rabies shot. 😱
I saw women (usually Brits) who traveled with Lil' Friskies cat food in their purse.
It's best not to get too attached to them. If you're giving them a bit off your plate, twenty others will be giving something, too.
