There is a spring in my yard that forms this creek and it never freezes. Just beyond that fallen tree it flows into the river, which is beginning to freeze and after a few more nights of bitter cold - 23c the river will become frozen, but the ducks and geese will continue enjoying this bit of open water.

Most fly further south until they come to open water.
